had this from a 12-oz bottle, first time having this bier.

A: Pour a nice caramel, amber color that is typical of this style. Heavy carbonation throughout the glass, yields a decent sized, but lighter foam head that dissipates in about 90 seconds and leaves no lacing.
S: Moderately sweet aroma of brown sugar, caramel, and butterscotch. Very inviting.
T: No surprises here, initial taste is very full and butterscotchy (sp?) but goes away quickly. No bitter aftertaste.
M: As stated, full at first then dissipates quickly.
D: Easy to drink, easy to have a few of these without a problem.

Overall, this is a decent fest bier. It isn't in the top tier yet, but a good attempt for such a small brewery. Kudos to Boone Brewery.
Do yourself a favor and have a few of these. Prosit!

The Blowing Rock line of beers contract brewed out of PA have been a bit lackluster but I thought this was pretty good.Poured a rich full bronze with a large two finger slight off white head, mainly caramel and light vanilla in the nose, with a hint of anise and bread dough showing thru as well.Flavors lean towards the sweeter end of the spectrum for the style,vanilla/caramel base with that anise flavor showing thru as well, there is a slight peppery zing of hop in the finish. The mouthfeel seemed a little watery but overrall not a bad fest lager although there are better out there to be sure.

Pours a moderate amber with a quarter of an inch of dense, off white head that has great retention. The nose is sweet caramel and lager yeast. The taste is caramel, apples, yeast, but there is something musty and bitter that I'm not fond of. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, smooth, but very crisp and a little over carbonated.

Pours a crystal clear golden amber color with a short wispy off-white head.

The aroma is a touch of caramel and toast to go along with a hint of munich malt. There are some light tea like scents as well as a hint of lemon.

The taste is sweet with caramel notes. There is a bit of a tea like flavor as well as some lemon. Pretty standard for an amber base. I pick up some doughiness from what could be munich malt. It gives the beer the oktoberfest flavor. Some light grassy flavors from the use of noble hops. There is a bit of an odd berry like sweetness that I can't really put my finger on.

The feel is light and crisp, exactly how an oktoberfest should be. Pleasantly sweet with just a hint of grassy bitterness. Easy drinking.

An enjoyable marzen. It strays closer to the amber side of the style but does appear to use some German ingrediants.

12 oz bottle poured into a Sierra Nevada Imperial Pint. No date or info on the bottle.

Thanks to Onenote81 for this great trade!

A - The beer pours clear with a one-finger off-white head that hovers briefly over the caramel amber body before receding to a creamy ring with spots of lacing.

S - The aroma makes this beer promising with a toasty Munich malt nose. A caramel sweetness is present too and shares the spotlight gracefully with a dry and grassy hop finish. A good smelling Oktoberfest!

T - The flavor mirrors the nose which is great! One of the better Okto's this season, it's heavily malty with toasty flavored Munich malts and a caramel-ish sweetness that isn't cloying. The hops that appear on the nose are less present in the flavor but balance decently. Instead of being too hoppy or dry on the finish the Blowing Rock hints at them as they give a kiss of dryness and crisp the finish well. Flavorful and delicious!

M - This lager is smooth and creamy with a perfect level of carbonation that sneaks by unnoticed but still allows for a crisp finish, not an overly malty sweetness. A dry touch accompanies the end with a very light bitterness. Very well balanced.

D - Very good drinkability on this beer. A better version of a style I think is becoming too watered down as of late. Sticking to a hearty medium-bodied malty, tasty brew, Blowing Rock has really made something good here.

Part of an Autumn tasting.

Poured into a pint glass. Has a nice copper/oragnge appearance with subtle head that disappears quickly.

Nose was light with hints of spice, maybe cinnamon.

Nice balance of carbonation for a lighter beer with good drinkability. Alchohol was minimal with spice lingering in the finish.

I'm always excited to see a new beer come out of NC, and even more excited when that beer is an Oktoberfest.

Poured into my pint glass a clear dark amber/orange with a thick beige head on top. Retention is weak, but it leave some lacing. Smells earthy and a little dull. Not a whole lot going on there.

The mouth is creamy, but with just enough carbonation to give a little zip. Well done. I wasn't expecting much in the flavor, as the rest of their offerings are pretty average, but I was pleasantly surprised by this one. Nice caramel kick at the onset, full bready mouth throughout, and finishes slightly bitter sweet. This is balanced and plenty drinkable. I could have a few more of these for sure. This may be one my go-to's for the fall. Recommend.
