Had on tap at Brouwers during Big Wood. Review from notes.
A: Sourlicious was brown/purple with a small bubbly head on top with little retention but some very nice lacing. Carbonation appears to be on the low side.
S: Slightly sour aroma with a bit of dark fruit, a little vanilla, and oak.
T: Nice tart/sour flavor with nice fruity flavors up front, but the flavor pretty much disappears on the back and and doesn't leave a real finish.
M: Medium bodied, but maybe a touch thin, low to medium carbonation.
O: Decent flanders, aroma was nice but the flavor profile fell off at the end a bit.

Served in straight pint glass. Poured a medium brown with a slight reddish tint at the edges. The beer poured very still, little carbonation and no head.
A nicely pungent aroma greets the nose. It was a sour aroma, but not so sour as to constrict the throat at first whiff. There was some oak and whiskey on the end of the scent. On the tongue, the whiskey and oak were the dominant flavors. There were some malt flavors showing through the sourness.
I found the body to be a little too thin to be enjoyable. Drinkability was very good, I had three pints and didn't start to tire of this beer. Another fine job from the guys in White Center.

My first whiff of this ale nearly put me through the roof. The fragrance is so rich, so complex, and so compelling, it's challenging to stop inhaling it long enough to take that first sip. Sourlicious is a sour ale of glowing red color that's been bourbon barrel conditioned. The effect of piquant lactic sourness with bourbon enhancements saturates the nose and palate with oak, vanilla, and regal bourbon character.
It's surprising to see such a relatively small sour beer transformed by barrel conditioning and cask mellowing. The premise somehow sets up the expectation of a stronger ale. But even at 5.5% ABV Sourlicious doesn't lack for any desirable property. Cask conditioning delivers a soft, airy head and silken body creating a relaxed yet bold ale whose sour properties alone could easily stand on their own merits independently of further conditioning. Highly recommended.
