A: Strolled in here and sat at the bar, a quiet awkwardness for a while while my wife and I sat at the bar with 4 other patrons. Watched some TV, had some small talk but man it was not very cozy. Atmosphere was even like the Pacific Rim but just nicer I guess. I recall coming here before it was Big Al's and it was about the same.

Q: Average to good. Some beers were unimpressive like the Mint Stout/Mint Winter Ale and the IPA but the Belgians were good. I have had numerous Big Al beers and only one has impressed me and that was the Peanut Butter Stout

S: No complaints here. Service was nice overall.

S: They had about 10 beers on tap

F: No try on the food, not sure of they had nay either. Pacific Rim had some awesome brats

Only place in White Center anything like this, quite happy it is here. Cool patrons of all walks of life, great chats, good time. There will be dogs present. Only Big Al's brews to choose from but that was all that I had wanted, if you are wanting more than that, this will not be the place for you. Samplers available for modest price. Much parking available if you go during down time. Worth the stop if you are in West Seattle.

Big Al's has a large upstairs lounge that is free to reserve. The idea is that you reserve the lounge and then spend a few hours playing darts, Wii, Atari, or other various board or card games with a large group of friends while drinking Big Al's finest. They serve no food, but word is that there is a hot dog cart that camps out in front on a regular basis. That was the case the day we went, but we opted to order pizza from Proletariat Pizza just a few blocks away. They don't deliver, so you will have to go get it. If you do, try their ham and egg pizza. Phenomenal. There is a courtyard area at Big Al's for sipping beers on a sunny evening, and in researching the place I learned that there is a grill that is available as well. If this brewery/pub were in any other location in Seattle, it would be swarmed nightly. Big Al could probably rent the lounge out at an exorbitant price, but the only cost is to hop on the I-5 and travel to a part of town that most Seattleans avoid--the White Center neighborhood. Initially, I got some resistance to planning a party here, but most as I continued to ask around, others said that while it is not the best part of town, it is no Compton; just be smart and don't do something stupid to attract trouble. Certainly, there were a number of interesting characters walking around the area, but no one bothers you if you are just riding in a car or otherwise just minding your own business. The main strip in the White Center has about three adult book stores, and I nearly couldn't find Proletariat Pizza due to the giant adult bookstore sign two doors down that dominated the view. Big Al's pub is only open from 6 to 9, so any visit during the summer will be during daylight hours. At night, all the sketchy characters disappeared. Perhaps everyone knows to hang it up after dark. Perhaps the sketchy characters weren't sketchy, but just eccentric, and they went indoors after dark to be safe. Regardless, never did I feel in danger at all while visiting the area.
Little things that stood out for me include the fact that the bartender was having trouble keeping the IPA from foaming, so when I tried to order a pitcher of it, he could only sell me a pint, but told me that if I ordered the equivalent of a pitcher via pints, he would only charge me for a pitcher. Good business service. Also, there are 2 restrooms and they are very clean. Nice. Finally, while the establishment stops serving beer after 9, the bartender let us hang out for another 45 minutes or so while he cleaned up downstairs and let other patrons finish their drinks.
Word is that Big Al wants to expand production so that he has a an entire building devoted to barrels for sour beers and experiments. Look out for Big Al if that is the case. He is passionate about beer and I predict he will be one of the few Washington brewers pushing the brewing envelope. As it is now, his beer is pretty tame. The most "extreme" might be the smoked porter, which itself is pretty balanced and mild. Unfortunately, there were no sour beers on tap the day we went, though I did really like their summer kolsch.
If you look up Big Al's on Yelp, it gets some pretty high marks. I am a bit surprised it is not rated higher on BA. Perhaps this is just a hidden gem waiting to be discovered.

My wife had an appointment in the area. Found this place on my beermapper app. What a pleasant surprise! Small upcoming place with awesome beer. Especially the IPA. Although the place is really small (which I like), it had a great atmosphere. Wanted to stay longer but had a long drive home! Definitely will go back!
