This small but popular city centre pub is in Bond Street, which is just behind Corporation St and Spon St, just a couple minutes walk from the new Ikea Store.
One of the few city centre pubs that sells real ale in decent condition. From the front entrance into a small narrow bar, with 5 hand pulls plus the usual taps for Guinness, Lagers etc. The hand pulls usually have Bass (quite good, though not a patch on what it was 10 years ago - thank you Coors!!!) Marstons Pedigree, Fullers London Pride, then Adnams Broadside and maybe Shepheard Neame Spitfire - the last two change from time to time. At last visit (Aug 2008) the Broadside and London Pride were excellent. From the bar there are several small rooms at the rear, with cozy seating and tables, one room having a small hatch back through to the bar for serving beer. At rear outside is an open seating patio area for smokers and those wanting to sit outside with chairs and tables and umbrellas for shade.
Fairly good food menu at lunch times with good selection of hot and cold sandwiches and main courses, all at good value for a city centre pub.
This pub has not always appeared in the Camra Good Beer Guide having various landlords change over the years, but from my experience the beers have always been good, and pleasant atmosphere - a little oasis from the bustle of Coventry centre for those who prefer decent pint in the city.
Bar area does have TV showing sports, though rear rooms are TV free, though some piped music.
The other real ale bar in Coventry being White Friars Ale House on Gosford Street - an amazing historic building with good beer selection, though have not visited recently, so cannot comment on quality or add review for BA. There is also a Wetherspoons - "Flying Standard" behind the Cathedrals, with large beer selection, but the beers are rarely in good condition and usually disappointing even if cheaper than elsewhere.
