Pours amber with a small head.
Nose shows light fruit (apples, white grapes), doughy wheat and a hint of lemon.
Flavours include some more fruit and wheat but also a grainy/dirty malt character.
Carbonation is a bit full on.
Another average attempt at a hefeweizen by an aussie brewer... seems to be a style we struggle at.

Golden straw with a two-finger white head. Good lacing and a steady bead remain.

Pear, banana and bubble-gum esters. True to style, nicely sweet and well contained.

Taste disappoints somewhat. The ester character has about half the vibrancy it showed in the nose, and is quickly overpowered by a dirty and almost metallic grain presence.

Okay mouthfeel, some champagne-like fizz. Nothing offensive.

There's potential for a good Hefeweizen here, but it's marred significantly by the unpleasant dirty grain character.

S: Aroma of fruit, banana, bit of citrus and spice.

T: Taste of fruit, banana and spice. Mild bitterness and fairly clean finish.

F: Moderate body and smooth.

On tap at the brewpub.
A good offering, more or less. True to form in most regards, but for an unusual subtlety on the palate.
I always hate to use 'wet paper' in my descriptions, knowing that it is indicative of a fault. The beer tastes nice... but for this particular, albeit faint, characteristic.
But for the price... $9.50 a pint.... I demand better.

330ml bottle purchased from Dan Murphy's in Alexandria. Poured half, agitated what sediment there was, then poured the second half.

The end result actually didn't change much from the first half. It's still hazed, but not hugely so, a pale, almost dirty yellow colour. Head froths significantly initially, but settles down to be no more than an ephemeral film, with some fine sudsing around the edge. And a while after that it disappears completely. Indeed, it looks pretty dead and lifeless after its initial flurry. I'm not overly impressed.

Nose is smacked with bananas, slightly overripe, slightly sweet, with something a little sour or carbonic about it. Perhaps it's slightly antiseptic. Whatever it is, it detracts a little from the classic hefe character. It's almost a nettle note. I'm fixating on this one thing because it's bugging me, but the large proportion of the nose is just that classic banana note: it's not all bad if you don't look too closely.

Taste is... fine. Whatever. Thin wheaty cleanness matched with some banana esters to tick the boxes. Not really much hint of the antiseptic character here, fortunately. Yeah, I mean I reiterate: it's fine. But I'm bored. Not only does it do nothing interesting, it's not even really a good example of a hefeweizen. It has enough character to show that, yes, it is what it says on the label, but otherwise it's really very pedestrian.

I guess I'm just world-weary. That's a sad place to be, really. There are so many great and exciting beers out there to discover. But this is not one of them.

A - Clear, straw coloured body under a small bubbly head and minimal lacing.

S - Banana, yeast, wheat.

T - Banana and yeast with the slightest coriander. Unfortunately I dont get any clove.

M - Light bodied with moderate to high carbonation.

O - Im big on hefes and I find this one pretty bland and pedestrian. It has the basics but just lacking in impact in all areas.

This brew pours a pale see through yellow straw hue with average carbonation that leaves behind a fast vanishing one finger head and little lacing, the smell is banannas, cloves and wheat,it has an light bodied well carbonated mouthfeel and has tastes of spicy hops, wheat, cloves and bananna and overall its an average Hefeweizen cheers.

On tap at brewery at Manly

A somewhat odd review being from memory rather than notes, however, myself and mrs heygeebee were reminiscing on our recent trip to 4 Pines and we recalled that this simply was the best beer of the night. As such worth a scribe as the difference between bottle and tap is worth noting by all.

It looked like a hefe with standard colour and good head retention, the thing that blew us away was the smell. Banana and Bazooka bubblegum absolutely in your face.

Taste was in the same traditional-to-style but pumped up vein.

Interesting as a comparison to have had a German hefe at the Bavarian Beer Cafe a little earlier which tasted like water compared to this.

Good stuff.

Bottle: reasonable 330mL brown bottle, decent boutique label.

Appearance: clear, straw coloured body under a small bubbly head and minimal lacing. Lacking wheat beer head.

Aroma: banana, yeast and wheat. Not terribly sophisticated, but still enticing.

Taste: banana and yeast with the slightest coriander.

Aftertaste: remains for a while, similar flavours.

Mouth feel: medium body with a fair amount of carbonation for a hefeweizen.

Overall: not the most sophisticated wheat beer. Also, very expensive (AU$70 per case in 2012). Don't get me wrong - it is quite a nice beer, just not the best, and certainly not for the price.

One of the best Australian examples of a hefeweizen.

Brilliant banana clove nose, but without being too spicy. The wheat could be revved up a bit, but may make it not as approachable at the bar for some. Perfect hefeweizen appearance and carbonation/mouthfeel

A brilliant tasty thirst quencher

Moderate banana aroma with low amounts of clove phenol.

Hazy, pale straw colour with a nice white head. Great lacing.

Good, fruity banana esters. Low on the spice. Not all that balanced.

Medium low body with moderate carbonation. Nice and creamy.

Tasty but it doesn't quite have the ester-phenol balance of a classic hefeweizen.
