Served in a nonic pint the pour produces a quarter finger of chewy, dark-khaki colored lace over an ebony body. Very good to look at. 4.25

Abundant coffee on the nose with an earthy, woody and somewhat spiced touch. Espresso levels of potency but there's also a sweet and creamy side to this brew. 4.25

Coffee still figures prominently on the palate but with less bite than I'd expect and the same woody, earthy notes given on the nose. With some warmth a pronounced vanilla flavor pops up and adds a nice dimension. The flavors here seem delicate and emphasizing restraint but I'm left wanting a bit more taste, both from coffee and malt. 3.5

The body is very light here and I feel this has an affect on the flavor, leaving it less rich and creamy than I'd want. But on the flipside, it's an exceptionally easy-drinking coffee stout with a number of flavors, so there's certainly a trade-off. 3.5

It's a good game day beer I think. Something I can put back in good amounts for sure. I'd probably make it a go-to if in Colorado Springs.

Had this as a Nitro. Drank Awaken the same day i got it in my Growler.

A: Looked very creamy as it poured from the growler and incredibly dark.

S: Chocolate, Coffee, and Malt blend

T: Tasted the same as it smelled and from what my friend told me that i was with is very much alike Guinness on Draft in Europe.

M: Felt creamy and smooth with a good ending.

D: Drinkability was exceptional. It was incredibly smooth we downed the entire Growler that night.

Dark brown with light red tints, a nice foamy tan head that has descent retention and descent lace. The smell is good with roasted malts, coffee tones, dark cocoa, light earthy hops, and a hint of vanilla. The taste is nice and richly roasted with a sweet caramel and coca middle, hints of vanilla and a nice earthy note of hops. Very well balanced and easy to drink.

Awaken is a fairly complex stout with a distinct flavor (and smell) of coffee, and minor flavors of roasted grains and chocolate. The head was creamy and laced well. This is a good stout on tap and has everything that a stout should have, but didn't blow me away. I would certainly drink another if I had the chance. It is also made vegetarian friendly, so that is a plus for compatibility.

Excellent in the glass, black with a great off-white head that left thick, heavy sheets of dense lacing and lasted forever.

A bit of an extra shot of burnt aromas (one of my favs in a stout), plus coffee, chocolate, roasted and toasted notes. more notable in the aroma and somewhat muted in the taste, tho the taste is still real nice.

Body is thick and typical of the rare instances when you can actually get a nitro pour. I got a growler of this too, but chose to do the review on the nitro version.

A- Small off white head little retention and no lacing. Dark cloudy brown beer.

S- Dark chocolate, coffee, molasses, and light pine hops.

T- Much like the smell dark chocolate, coffee, molasses and piney hops.

M- Silky smooth medium bodied beer with a nice bite in the end.

Pretty good coffee stout, I know I will be drinking a lot of this a the local brewpub.

Pours a creamy black color, almost opaque, with a nice fluffy off-white head. Aromas of cocoa, coffee and roasted malt. Nice creamy texture, with good freshly brewed espresso flavors, along with some dark chocolate and the expected roasted malt. An enjoyable beer.

This is based on a growler brought back from the taproom the same day.
Pours a milk chocolate color. Looks more like a brown ale than a stout, but it does have a nice thick texture and just the right amount of foam from a normal pour.
The nose is a nice back and forth of sweet malty flavors and coffee. While some coffee beers go crazy with strong espresso, this one seems to be a bit milder and more acidic.
The taste offers just a hint of slightly vinous sourness from the beer, which I’ll attribute to the yeast. From there it develops into a slightly sweet nutty ale that (like the appearance) seems closer to a brown ale than a stout to me. The coffee kicks in on the back of the palate and works really well as a blending flavor without taking over everything. Just the right amount of roastiness and slight acidity.
A pretty good coffee beer, although I do still think it’s more of a brown ale than a stout…at least to me.
That said, the old "drinkability" rating for this beer would've been off the charts. Our growler disappeared in almost no time. While the scores don't seem all that high, I really did enjoy drinking it and will definitely get more.
