Notes & Commercial Description:
Beer added by: pbrian on 03-29-2001

The generous addition of hops both during and at the end of the fermentation process (dry-hopping) gives our India Pale Ale its characteristic bitterness and piney citrus aroma and flavor. The medium body, crisp finish, and moderate alcohol and IBU levels makes this one of America’s most drinkable and best-selling IPAs.

Pours a one finger head, light head retention, with medium lacing. Body is a light copper, slightly cloudy with no sediment. On the nose, I get a hint of pine, which is unusual for a 6.2 abv IPA. Followed up with a hint of citrus and raspberry. On the palate I immediately get more pine than i got on the nose, the hops bite travels directly to the back ( most high abv's it usually travels to the sides as well as the back. Must be due to the dry hopping process. finishes crisp and semi dry with a pleasant note of citrus. decently session able for a dry hopped IPA.

Not enough hop bite and flavour for an IPA. Better marketed as a Session IPA, I think.

Have always liked this beer. Like the name and bottle too (it's like like one my grandfather was drinking from in old photos). NH local, so can find it easily....and a nice one to grab when I don't want to guess.

This brew pours a semi-transparent copper color with a white, fluffy one finger head which lasts a while. Some of the head remains as a collar and some stays on top. There is very light lacing.

The smell has both citrus and floral hops but nothing really stands out. Maybe some lemon and pine.

The taste follows the nose with some lemon and pine but neither the hops nor the malt backbone dominate. The sweet and caramel malts try to push through from the background but nothing really pops. The feel is kind of thin. There is a kind of dry, soapy aftertaste.

Overall this is an okay, far from great, IPA. I would drink it again if I found it for cheap. This beer might be better positioned as a "Session" IPA.

Greater than the sum of its parts. I love the moderate hoppiness & refreshing nature of this beer, and would drink it in warm or cold weather.

Average. Average ipa. Average beer. Wait. Bomber can be found nationwide for 2.50? I buy this out of spit for beer snobs. This beer is fucking tasty and cheap. Think. Tasty hops nothing fancy and cheap. That 11.99 bomber of Clown Shoes goes real well with this. It's a filler beer. Like Budweiser for beer aficionados. Sometimes you just want more hops and you don't want them to kick your face. Aftertaste is a bit off but for 2.50 I have no fucks left to give in terms of discrediting this beer. Great choice every time. Never amazing. Always great.

Poured from a 22 oz bottle into a Sam Adams glass.

L - Medium gold color; crystal clear. Tiny bubble constantly rise. Head is off-white, fluffy and moderately long lasting. Thick, solid lace on the sides of the glass.

S - Aromas dominated by citrus and grapefruit West Coast hops, but not overly assertive or fresh-seeming. Very low bready malt in background.

T - Flavors are of strong citrusy and grassy hops as well as low malt, mostly grainy with some bread. Flavors are very clean with no yeast or alcohol notes, but also not very deep or complex.

F - Thin body. Smooth, creamy carbonation. Medium to high hops bitterness. No alcohol presence. Feels more like a cream ale than an IPA.

O - A decent, drinkable beer, but not outstanding in any area. Lack of hops assertiveness and thin body are drawbacks.

A little more hops and a little more flavor would have gone a long way with this beer. As it is, tastes like a light IPA. The 'dry hops' on the label didn't do much for me.

It is easy to smash his beer if you are a true aficionado. That said, not a half-bad session IPA. I grabbed a double-deuce in a gas station on the way to a baseball game. Right next to the Schlitz and Olde English. Under the right circumstances, and price conditions ($1.50), this beer can be a pleasant surprise and a welcome find for a beer snob just looking for one more drink and listening to some Grateful Dead. The key is to temper your expectations.

An IPA for those who've never had one. For the initiated, it's moderately drinkable IPA, but that's about it.

12 oz bottle

Pours a light golden body with a half inch head that vanished pretty fast, a little lacing

Not very prominent smell. Wet grass, a little pine.

The little bit of bitterness is enjoyable. But I couldn't find anything else . No other discernible flavors to bounce off or flow with the slight bitterness...

Feel was crisp and smooth.

Overall It's ok, (I never kick a beer out of my glass ) But this not really an IPA by today's (2015) dry hopping standards.

Was a medium gold with a copper tint. Smelled of malt mixed with grapefruit and pine. Tasted fruity and wheaty mixed with hops.

A golden yellow Ale. It smells fruity and hoppy however most of the fruit taste is lost in the hops when you take a drink. Overall it is bitter and hopsy tasting. I love hops so it is a really good beer.

This beer is my "go to" good beer. Not at all my favorite IPA. But easily drinkable and consistent. Much better than the run of the mill Buds and Millers.
