Treblehook is vigorously hopped and patiently aged with aromatic malt and spicy hop notes. Smooth and complex, this beer is carefully brewed by hand with sublte caramel, toffee and chocolate notes.

This is a review of a much older treblehook than the one pictured, the old black bottle w treblehook on it. Looks like we took down a 2009 version on Halloween 2016.
Pours a deep copper and brown color. Seemed to still have a big blast of Chinook hops. Pine time.
Taste imparts significant amount of caramel, toffee and more of that Chinook/Centennial pine forest tree hop goodness. Significant bitterness but it seems to supplant the alcohol a little bit. Just a tiny bit of a dark fruit bitterness to it. The spicy hop note is just exaggerated commercial tug job stuff. Seemed higher than 52 ibu.
Haven't seen much of these in about a decade. Back in the day it was in my top tier fave stuff from them. Really seems that it was dominated, both fresh and to a slightly lesser extent when aged up to 7 years, by the Centennial and Chinook like pine forest meets grandma candies from the malt bill. This and Bigfoot were and still are staples when its available.

Just opened a 4 year old bottle. Smooth, malty, very little evidence of hops

Saved a case and stored it in the cellar. Bottled on September 08, 2009. I figured this was a good time to open it 8 years and 4 months later. I'm not a veteran of the barleywine's but I did have a couple of these fresh before I stored them. Smell is of dark fruit, plum, cherry, wood. Taste is smooth with a very creamy head. Up front I get the warmth of the ABV, plum, dark fruit, malt, little vanilla and wood. Pretty good aged barleywine I'd have to say. Taste has changed a bit. Now I need to start opening the cellared Quads and Russian Imperial Stouts.

Born on date Sept 08 2009. Poured into a snifter at 50 degrees. A dark brown beer with red hues. The body of beer is near opaque. A one finger light tan head with good retention. The beer is a bit darker than it should be for this style.
N: Sweet caramel, with earthy, bready, fruity, citrus (grapefruit and lemons), and some floral.
T: Sweet caramel, toffee, bread, earth dark fruits, lemons, floral, and some resin.
M: The body of the beer is medium, kinda chewy, and low carbonation.
The bottle conditioning of the beer killed the body, it is not thick and chewy like some of the great aged barleywines I have tried. The hops to me is just mild, it is more of a malt bomb with hints of hops. This is just a decent barleywine, it has potential.

2010 12 oz. bottle poured into an extended tulip style glass. Looks good nice tangerine/orange color with a slightly hazy look to it. Nice slightest of slight off white colored head with medium to small bubbles with excellent lacing and glass retention.
Smell is good. Big in both ways bot the malt and hop area. Plenty of caramel malts that are nice and roasted. There's also some nice pine aromas and some tangerine peel, pretty good all around.
Not really a ton to say about the flavor profile but there's a lot of flavor. A lot of up front sweetness. Plenty of caramel and not quite as much toffee tones. Then there's a TON of pine resin flavored hops that are very strong, it's pretty nice though and then theres some nice citrus peel flavors, grapefutie, clementine, tangerine, and some orange. Nice all around.
Appropriate full bodied flavor, lingers a little bit. Really nice carbonation level with a nice gritty dry bitter finish. Good carbonation level even with three years on it, but I guess this is a style that ages well. Really good sipper, but goes down pretty quick, really drinkable. This was one of the first beers I really liked when I got into craft beer though glad I still like it.
