22 oz. bottle served at my cellar temp (50F) in a nonic pint glass.

Appearance: Nearly opaque black with just barely perceivable auburn highlights can be detected at the edges of the glass. One and a half finger head slowly settles to a delicate dusting of foam. Nice cresting lacing.

Aroma: Sour tang and a bit of a coppery metallic smell jump out. Not really any coffee aromas to be found.

Flavor: Pretty dry for an imperial stout. Could use some more residual sweetness. to temper the intense roast characters. Some initial sweetness on the tip of the tongue quickly succumbs to intense roastiness that then intensifies further to a charred carbon character. A bit of sweetness is found in the middle in the form of slight bready toast which also becomes burnt toast in nature. A taste of over-extracted dark roast coffee that has sat too long on the warmer. Acrid. A bit of the sourness in the aroma carries through to the flavor.

Mouthfeel: Medium body and nicely carbonated. Drying quality on the tongue.

Overall: Disappointed. Not very impressed. I have not had any Imperial coffee stouts and was expecting something else. I love a good cup of dark roast coffee and also a good imperial stout. This satisfied neither category. A bit too heavy a hand on the roast barley and possibly over-extracted/burnt coffee (if it was brewed rather than cold-extracted.) Perhaps would have been different with a bit more sweetness to bring balance to the bitter qualities of the roasted grains. The overpowering nature of the roast grains seems to be possibly covering some off-flavors. A bit of lactic tang is nice in a stout but there seems to be something else lurking in the shadows. Not very drinkable overall perhaps if it were more balanced. Could better highlight the coffee as well. As it stands it is just acrid roastiness with none of the fruity rich complexity coffee could bring to the palate.

22oz brown bomber with a freshness date. Blueline series label.

Stout black color, decent tan lacing. Fresh brewed ice coffee, roasted grain, burnt bread, mild molasses and a hint of dark fruit and alcohol in the aroma. Deep smoothness and a little creamy, big roasted flavor open up with each sip. Coffee is layered throughout with hints of dark chocolate and with a hint of alcohol it is almost reminiscent of a tiramisu flavor. Modest hopping, hint of dried dark fruit and charred wood. Finishes roasty with coffee tone, lands semi-dry.

Almost a cup a joe, well done Redhook ... would love to have this brew once in a while when I am hankering for a coffee beer.

Bomber to pint glass in high elevation Libby, Mont. Reviewed live. Bottled on Oct. 8, 2012.

A- One-finger mocha head with rapidly eroding retention. Coal-black color with a nice mocha ring around the top.

S- Coffee, chocolate and roast malts. Warm and toasty.

T- Coffee, fruity and roasty. Quite a nice flavor.

M- Light bodied and finishes fairly wet.

O- Quite a good beer. A new thing in my opinion about Red Hook.
