Notes/Commercial Description:
Mudslinger is a Nut Brown Ale with a Medium body and a fresh aroma. Its malty flavor is layered with light chocolate, caramel, brown sugar and a hint of vanilla. Six barley malts and two hop varieties result in a surprisingly smooth, well balanced dark beer.

Review from BeerAdvocate Magazine Issue #49 (Feb 2011):

Slight crackle in the head, tall and bubbly. Reddish glow in the clear brown color. Hint of malt in the aroma, with a side of leafy, woody hop and mild fruitiness. Wet body--we considered saying thin, though the semidry malt character took its time coming around and dropped a pleasant toasted graininess on our taste buds. Hint of caramel goes well with the vague fruiti- ness and faint kiss of alcohol. A content party of flavors on the palate, it's hard to put this up against other Nut Brown Ales though. A worthy effort.

Appearance: pours a healthy 2” beige sudsy head that recedes slowly. Good amount of lacing. Color is mostly clear light brown with moderate carbonation. Looks much like a glass of Coca Cola.
Aroma: fairly mild aroma. There is fresh water and bread dough with some chocolate malt. Mouthfeel: light to medium bodied, somewhat dry finish.
Flavor: medium roasted malts are the dominant flavor with chocolate, coffee, and toffee notes being evident. There is a mild, but noticeable, hop bitterness in the finish.

12oz bottle
A) Pours with a thin head that settles quickly. Brown-mahogany colored body. Clear body. Thin, semi-sticky lacing on the drink down.
S) Subtle caramel notes but not very aromatic.
T) Malty sweetness. Caramel. Hints of nuts. Subtle hops in the finish.
M) Medium-light body. Slight tannin in the finish.
O) An ok brew. With a name like "mudslinger" one would think the girth would be more and the flavor profile would be more pronounced.

Color is a little light, more red than brown. Good carbonation. Head dissipates quickly.
Smell of sweet malt
Malty, nutty with a bit of sweetness.
Mouthfeel is medium, not watery and not syrupy.
Not a great brown ale, but good enough for a cold winter night.
Once again RedHook puts out a brew that is drinkable but not special.
