Notes/Commercial Description:
This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

Czech out Redhook’s newest brew. Redhook Pilsner is crisp, golden lager that is modeled after those historic beers originally made in Plzeň, Czechoslovakia. Redhook Pilsner’s maltiness is offset by a medium dose of Saaz hops and finishes with a clean, bright, thirst-quenching quality. A great “session” lager for when you’ve got a long day ahead of drinking.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a tall pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a somewhat hazy yellowish golden orange with a moderate amount of bubbles. About one finger of white head that fades into a thin patchy layer. Leaves some decent lacing.

Smell: A crisp and bready pils malt forward aroma. Upfront scent of bready Pils malt with hints of biscuit, cereal grains, straw, yeast, and crackers. Light presence of earthy European hops that linger in the background. A pretty solid typical Pils aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a crisp and bready Pils malt driven taste. Bready taste of Pils malt with upfront notes of biscuit, cereal grains, straw, hay, crackers, and yeast. Decent backing of earthy European hops add a little balance. Nicely crisp and dry. A pretty solid taste.

Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Crisp, clean, and very smooth with a drying finish.

Overall: A good take on the Pilsener style. Has the grainy malt presence you expect for the style.

Poured into a pilsner glass a clear light to medium golden with a clingy half finger white head leaving an unbroken ring of lace as it settled.Mild fruity esters in the nose wich was a bit of surprise to go along with some toasty cereal grain.Decent flavors on the palate, grainy and lightly toasted with a tinge of honey malt,a light sharpness come in the finish. Not a bad pilsner not as hopped as I may have liked, but its crisp and pretty well rounded.

12oz bottle

A- Pours a hazey golden yellow color with a fizzy white head that quickly disappears.

S- The aroma is light pilsner malt and faint hops. Not much else to mention, pretty faint.

T- The taste like the aroma starts out with faint light pilsner malts with a mild bitterness from the hops in the crisp finish. Not all that flavorful but very clean and easy drinking with not any off-flavors.

M- The mouthfeel is light bodied with a high amount of carbonation.

D- Overall, this is not the most exciting pilsner but it serves it's purpose as an easy drinking summer session beer. Like a Heineken but not skunky. Would hold up decently well at outdoor summer cookouts and tailgates.

Had lunch at The Chataqua Pub today. This wasn't on tap, but I picked up a 6pack to bring home. An innocuous beer. Gold color with a small white head and a tiny bit of lacing. Faint fresh grass, citrus aroma. Lemon taste, hops at the end. While it had a crisp mouthfeel, I thought it was overly hopped. Lots of better pilsners to choose from.

12oz brown bottle with a bottled on date on the label.

The perfect golden clarity is there, ample amount of white foam stays for the duration. Clean bready grassy malt with a faint spicy herbal hop nose, a clean one at that. Crispness is spot on and make this beer really refreshing, light to medium bodied. Maltiness is very clean with a quick brush of dried grass and bread crust. Hops are bitter enough for this dry-sided lager, oily flavor adds some depth but does not detract from its superior drinkability.

Impressive to say the least, I'll be getting a case ASAP as it easily found a place in my beer fridge.

Thanks to mar for sharing this bottle.

The beer pours a clear yellow color with a white head. The aroma is corn and wheat. Not too great. The flavor is very similar. The corn and wheat stand out and this tastes a whole lot like a macro lager. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Not something I would try again.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: Slightly hazy golden yellow. Thin white had and no lacing.

Smell: Grassy smell with some malts, and a faint alcohol smell.

Motuhfeel/Taste: Smooth medium to light bodied. Grassy, malts, and sugars.

Overall: Not bad, not my first choice, but I would have it again.

This beer pours a clear medium golden hue, with continuous rising effervescence leading to one finger of soapy white head, which in turn renders some consistent swipes of painted lace around the glass. It smells of crisp biscuit grain, some mild lemon, and grassy, hay-like hops. The taste is pretty consistent with the aroma - barley grain, a bit of citrus, and crisp grassy, weedy hops. The carbonation is fairly subdued, the body medium weight, smooth, and surprisingly creamy. It finishes dry, crisp, and with summer meadow-like character - grass seed, florals, and pollen.

Nice to see a larger microbrewery stay true to style in producing a seasonal. While not a round-tripper, this is at least a standing triple. (Beer style terminology crossover pun unintended)

brewed on 5/4/10 consumed on 6/24/10

Looks clear golden color with a nice flow of carbonation and a really healthy, fluffy, slow-dissipating clean-white head.

Earthy, peppery hop and yeast aroma. More earthy grains and a tangy crispness. Dried wheat, corn husks in the hot sun, corn on the cobb maltiness and a bit of sweet malt. Great aromatic balance.

This one starts off clean and full of earthy, natural flavor's like dried corn from the cobb, golden wheat, earthy grains. The yeast adds a rightous hit of earthiness, peppery garden greens and subtle sour notes but all in perfect balance..>>> A really nice balance except the malt might have too much lingering sweetness<<<, slightly cloying, mostly clean and crisp, light but as time passes the quality slips and it becomes more malty and heavy. UPDATE:new fancy bottle: brewed on 3/22/11. This one is a classic, the malty sweetness is toned down and only, clean and crisp flavor's prevail here. the finish is crystal clean, refreshing and ultra crispy and it doesn't seem to downgrade as time passes. either this one is much fresher than my previous review's sample or the recipe has been slightly tweeked...for the better. I'm in love.

This one is quality. brewed perfectly to style this time around light and bright flavor's...gentle herbs, garden greens and crispy malt makes this one tough to put down!

A - pure, clean, clear, golden yellow; quarter of an inch of thick, white, foamy head; good retention

S - grass, straw, noble hops, faint pine, faint herbal hops, a bit of grains

T - straw, bitter, grassy, a bit of lemon

M - crisp, smooth, a bit overcarbonated, light to medium bodied

This is a drinkable, smooth beer that has decent flavor. The over carbonation takes away from the flavor. Still though it'd be easy to knock back a few of these. If you want something lighter bodied, light on the wallet, and sessionable then this is a good option.
