Czech Pilsener |  5.30% ABV

Availability: Year-round

Notes/Commercial Description:
This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

Czech out Redhook’s newest brew. Redhook Pilsner is crisp, golden lager that is modeled after those historic beers originally made in Plzeň, Czechoslovakia. Redhook Pilsner’s maltiness is offset by a medium dose of Saaz hops and finishes with a clean, bright, thirst-quenching quality. A great “session” lager for when you’ve got a long day ahead of drinking.

Appearance- Hazy yellow with 1/2 finger of coarse nicotine stained head

Aroma- floral, banana, honey, melon, citrus

Taste- clove, light corn banana, shampoo. This drinks a bit like a lighter crisper heff IMO. Hops are resiny with a touch of citrus rind. Just a hint of skunk as it warms it gets more of a honey taste.

Mouthfeel- a little fizzy for my taste, but good for the style.

Overall- to me it taste like a lighter thinner heff. Sessionable perhaps not as filling. Another tasty lawn mower beer, but nothing new.

Pours translucent honey gold with a 1/4 white head that quickly disappears completely and leaves no lace.

Smell is of biscuit, honey and butter.

Taste is grainy malt, orange, lemon and honey with faint hop bitterness on the finish.

Texture is medium bodied with medium carbonation.

I enjoyed this much more than I thought I would. Refreshing and easy drinking.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a tall pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a somewhat hazy yellowish golden orange with a moderate amount of bubbles. About one finger of white head that fades into a thin patchy layer. Leaves some decent lacing.

Smell: A crisp and bready pils malt forward aroma. Upfront scent of bready Pils malt with hints of biscuit, cereal grains, straw, yeast, and crackers. Light presence of earthy European hops that linger in the background. A pretty solid typical Pils aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a crisp and bready Pils malt driven taste. Bready taste of Pils malt with upfront notes of biscuit, cereal grains, straw, hay, crackers, and yeast. Decent backing of earthy European hops add a little balance. Nicely crisp and dry. A pretty solid taste.

Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Crisp, clean, and very smooth with a drying finish.

Overall: A good take on the Pilsener style. Has the grainy malt presence you expect for the style.

Poured into a pint mug. I like the nice ochre yellow color of the beer, the head was decent, the lacing was nice, it had a malty aroma and subdue notes of hops. The first sip was pleasant to the taste buds, the beer is not fizzy; but has nice mouth feel and taste. I can drink lots of it and it is by no means a lawnmower beer....and remember folks, drink beer and support your local brewery. HOG
