Ah, Spring…the season that keeps us guessing. Will it rain, or will the sun be out? Do I take advantage of the last days of skiing, or the first days of hiking? Do I put on jeans, or dare break out the shorts? The season comes with enough uncertainty, so Redhook gives you something you can always count on…our Nut Brown Ale. This medium dark beer is layered with rich malty aromas and flavors of chocolate, caramel, brown sugar, and a hint of vanilla. Although it may be dark in color, it’s refreshingly smooth and highly sessionable. Nut Brown is the perfect beer for spring.

From old, undated notes. Poured from the bottle.

Light brown, slight murk.

Vanilla dominates the nose.

Very slight lacing which dissipates.

Vanilla and cream soda are the dominate flavors here.

Medium heft to the mouthfeel.

Touch o' hops give a nice balance.

Overall, a nice brown; fall is the time for this beer.

Clear brown with an orange/reddish hue and a thin skim of a cap -- mostly just a collar around the glass. Sweet aroma, nutty and brown sugar, bread and biscuit. The flavour was thin, bitterness was higher and more aggressive than the malt could balance. Notes of grass and mint. Light bodied, moderate carbonation, a bit coarse. Not something I'll go in search of, but not all bad.
