22oz brown bomber with a freshness date
Thick two finger of froth, full on dark brown. Smells of dark bread, faintness of caramel, spicy hop and a mild sweetness. Semi-sweet start, slightly roasted, very mild saltiness, spicy, faint herbal hop, slight alcohol warmth, more roastiness in the drying finish.
Not sure if I even tastes lobster in this beer at all, did detect some saltiness but that was pretty clean. Roasted character nearly mimics a brown porter, drinkable regardless of what style it is closer to or that it was brewed with lobsters.

An odd bomber of Schwarzbier (reads "Black Lager" on the label) by Red Hook.
Pours nicely dark brown, cola-colored, with an ample tan head, not a lot of lacing.
Aroma of roasted (chocolate) malt mixed with very light hoppiness and light nondescript fruitiness.
Tastes like a light porter, largely reflecting the aroma. Moderate bitterness from the dark roasted malts, coffee notes, but not a lot of hops. Slight acidity, but not sufficient to discern citrus.
Light-bodied with ample carbonation and no alcohol overtones.
Pleasant, fairly refreshing beer but not really distinguished from the pack. Too light-bodied to be a Baltic Porter, which is seems to desperately want to be, but it remains a Red Hook lager underneath. More hops and more complex malt notes might have made it a much better beer. As is, it's a good summer refresher and a New Hampshire novelty, but not something to add to a collection. Would buy again if price is right, but not where I would look first.

From the Portsmouth, NH (USA) Brewery 650 ml. bottle marked: 1151NH-MAR2213. Sampled on August 10, 2013.
The pour is very dark brown to near black but the brown hues can be seen along the edge of the glass in the light. Modest light brown head.
The aroma is of dark burnt malts, coffee, and a dash of smoke. Hops are downplayed.
The body is medium to bold with a slickness on the tongue.
The taste boasts dark malts, less coffee than the aroma, and a slightly earthy crisp hop finale. My palate may not be trained enough to pick up lobster meat because I don't. I like the fact it is brewed with New Hampshire local ingredients.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a beer brown nearly black color with a one finger cream colored head. The head fades quite fast leaving a foamy tan cap on the top of the brew and a lighter level of lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The smell is salty and lightly roasted. Roasted malts of a light coffee smell are combined with tons of salt water/beach smell. With these smells are some notes of a grassiness and some herbal smells creating a somewhat roasted sea like aroma overall.
Taste – A lightly salted roasted malt flavor of chocolate meets the tongue. As the flavor advances the saltiness fades with a more coffee like flavor taking over the chocolate flavors of the brew. More toward the end there is a more herbal and earthy hop flavor that joins the slightly bitter coffee flavor. While the hop increases the bitterness, there is a sweeter vanilla flavor that balances out the flavor once again. A somewhat crustacean taste joins the flavors at the end to leave a rather interesting and somewhat creamy darker flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel - The body of the brew is lighter in the beginning of the taste with it gaining creaminess as beer lingers on the tongue. The carbonation level follows the same profile, with it beginning on the slightly higher side but it lowering as the flavors advances. It complements the transitions of the taste quite well and creates a smoother feel overall.
Overall – A rather interesting brew. A bit of saltiness and a nice darker flavor. While it contains only a little bit of “seafood” taste it is rather enjoyable none the leas and well worth a try if you can find it.

The beer pours like black coffee, dark and impenetrable to the eye in body. The beer pours with a clean head of fluffy, medium sized bubbles that sit somewhere between a cream color and a light khaki. The beer’s lacing is made of fatter, sticky bubbles on the sides of the glass, which leave a nice collection of clouds and webs along the glass. On the nose, the beer smells of good, clean roast with coffee and chocolate nuances and the faintest ghost of brine to suggest the lobsters that were boiled in the wort. Hops also make an appearance as light, grassy notes in the nose. On the tongue, the beer tastes of clean bitter roast with a faint touch of sweetness and a light, metallic acidity. In flavor the beer begins as light roast with a very light touch of briny salt. Coffee and faint chocolate play on the tongue until the brine moves into a metallic taste with light citric tinges. The beer’s flavor reminds me a lot of Cerne Pivo by Notch Brewing. The finish is short and sweet with metallic brine and roast, mingling together in a pleasant flavoring. The aftertaste continues the metallic brine, bringing in very faint touches of lemon and chocolate coffee. In the mouth, the beer feels on the light side of medium in body with a gentle chewiness to the beer, some slickness, and a soft carbonation that caresses the tongue with light hiccups. Overall, this is a nice lighter beer that fulfills the desire for roast without punching you in the stomach with weight. The metallic flavor is a little off putting at first, but as you drink the beer it coalesces more and more into a brine flavor, which is interesting and tasty. This beer is great for knocking back in the summer.

Pours a medium brown color, not much for head, what head there is fades quickly, not much lacing on the glass.
Smell is dominated by roasted malt, slight mustiness to it as well.
Taste starts out with a burnt bitter malt taste, roasted aspects come into play then a slight metallic flavor, not really picking up lobster but I see that as a good thing when it comes to my drinks haha, carbonation is high and assertive but fades quickly enough in the mouth so not to have a cola effect.

A - a centrally reddish black lager with crimson streaks at the edges, the pour created a big tan head
S - stout malts create backbone that holds up a misplaceable earthy aroma, that with the help of the bottle I can see as oceanic
T - roasted malts dominate with a slight smokiness, but the true star is the oceanic/earthiness. It's not discernible as lobster, or even seafood for that matter. Differentiable from an oyster stout.
M&D&O - rich, toasty, full bodied, full of flavor. A great beer, obviously would pair well with shellfish dinners and even a backyard barbecue.
