12ox bottle poured into a pint glass The date on the bottle says August 10th 2013

A: Poured a very dark brown, when held up to the light there was a reddish glow. This beer had a very small mocha colored head which dissipated almost instantly.

S: Lots of allspice, cinnamon and nutmeg in the nose. I can smell pumpkin but its a little more faint then I would prefer. Molasses scents became more pronounced as this beer warmed up.

T: I can taste all of the spices mentioned above. The taste seems to have roasted/smoked flavor to it almost coffee like in nature. Molasses is also quite present. I noticed faint chocolate flavors as well.

M: This is the beers one major downfall, for a porter this is much to watery. I also feel that it could use less carbonation. For being only 5.80 ABV the alcohol in this beer is quite present, I can feel a fair amount of heat of this one.

O: This could be a really excellent beer if they tweaked it a little bit in terms of mouthfeel. I also wouldn't really call this a pumpkin beer there were very few traces of pumpkin smell and none in the flavor. I would definitely drink this again but I probably wont buy it again. If your into pumpkin beers this is worth a shot.

I wouldn't consider this a porter or a pumpkin beer. It's just a nice easy-drinking tasteful beer. subtle taste of pumpkin, some smoke, and the nice smooth porter characteristics. It's a little flat like a cask ale. all said I think it's a great fall beer. I will enjoy this much more in October.

12 oz bottle.
Dark, opaque, red-brown body with a decent head.
Overly spiced ale. good bitter/sweet balance. Pumpkin pie spices dominate and mask the malt base.

It needs more pumpkin, Jack! This sounds so good on the bottle but it's lacking in the pumpkin department in both the nose and taste. Warm the flavors become more pronounced, definitely get the nutmeg and maple and some pumpkin. Cold, good luck getting more than a slightly sweet light porter. Overall, despite not living up to the description it's still quite drinkable. Not something I'd see myself buying maybe, but love to see at a fall party.

Poured from a twelve ounce bottle into a snifter.

Pitch black in color with a cream-colored head that's considerably sparse---maybe a sixteenth of an inch of head. Lac is present but again, not entirely abundant.

The smell is immediately pumpkin, then spice, hints of bubblegum, and some chocolate. These all transfer over to the taste, but other flavors emerge as well, particularly nutmeg and coffee.

The beer has some bite to it because of the spices and is quaffable. There's something about the beer that I enjoy but I can't quite place my finger on what. It's a good beer ultimately, something I'd give a run next fall as well.

Incredibly dark brown in color - reminds me of tar and allows next to no light to pass through. A soft, tan head keeps the beer from escaping, leaving trace lacing.

Nice layers of cinnamon and molasses are the most dominant while maple is noticable towards the end of the nose. Welcoming aroma at first... After a while black licorice started bleeding through... and I'm not a fan of that character.

Roasted grains are quite prevelant here, as is the unfortunate taste of black licorice. Molasses and pecans are noticable. A very bitter, roasted coffee is also detectable. All of this flavors cannot distract you from the black licorice however.

Surprisingly light body for a porter and very uneventful in the carbonation department (practically flat). Refreshing if you can look past its flaws.

I was dissappointed with this one, once I noticed the black licorice, it was incredibly hard to notice much else. I applaud Redhooks approach, but I can't recommend it.

Now, this is a nice twist on the usual pumpkin ale. Melding the pumpkin and Fall spices with a dark and roasty porter, rather than a regular ale, Red Hook’s Pumpkin Porter also adds maple syrup for an added dimension. And at a relatively light 5.8% ABV, this is a drinkable and session-worthy seasonal.

My tasting begins with the pouring, and Out Of Your Gourd pours an opaque black with slight ruby highlights. I get a thick head of tan suds, giving way to cloudy tree-line lacing.

The aroma is definitely heavier Wintery spice (cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice), with only a token touch of pumpkin on the palate. I would’ve liked a little more of the pureed pumpkin to show itself here.

Taste is rich and spiced, with, again, the pumpkin not being as prominent as I’d like. The maple syrup also seems a bit submerged, though I do get a nice roasted element from the porter underneath all the spices. Overall a solid Fall/pumpkin brew, but not one of the best.

Poured minimal head on a dark brown body.
The aroma is pumpkin spice, cinnamon and roasted malt. It smells just like pumpkin pie.
The taste is shallow. A little pumpkin, lemon bitter and a touch of roasted malt.
The texture is crisp with moderate carbonation.
The taste was too mild, not really a porter or a pumpkin beer.

A- pours dark brown-nearly black color with a creamy light-tan head that retains long after the pour, coating the side of the glass. Awesome looking beer

S- raw pumpkin with notes of cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger. There's a nice roasty/grainy malt with a touch of chocolate in the background

T- nice blend of pumpkin spices up front; cinnamon, clove, nutmeg and ginger. slightly sweet mid-palate, perhaps from the maple syrup used, smoky chocolate with a hint of coffee on a dry finish

M- medium body with a creamy mouthfeel produced from an everlasting head, moderate carbonation leads to a smooth and creamy finish

O- the base porter is solid within itself with nice chocolate and smoked malt flavors, the pumpkin spices add another demension and the two balance each other very well. The creamy head is still standing after drinking 3/4 of the beer. Overall very good and one that I'll be going back to this fall. Pumpkin porters should be produced by breweries more often
