Pours with no head, smoke or visible carbonation. Color is dark brown with a red hue.
Smells deeply of red wine, chocolate, sweets. Exceptional smell.
At first I taste fudge, then wine, then a hint of caramel, and then all the flavors mesh and I'm left with the bourbon aftertaste. Very refined beer. So many flavors so well balanced. One of the best Lost Abbey beers for sure, much less sickeningly sweet than the brandy counterpart. I have to give this a perfect score.
Thick, smooth mouthfeel with little carbonation, which I actually find appealing for this beer.
Drinkability is good, I'll have trouble drinking more than one but the taste doesn't get to desserty or filling after a while, which is great. Bravo.
