A - Pours with almost no head on a very dark brown body. Low retention and no lace.

S - Boozy notes of vanilla, caramel, and toasted oak with brown sugar, molasses and lots of toffee.

T - Sweet, thick malt up front with notes of caramel, vanilla, and toffee. Lots of vanilla and whiskey character in the middle and a finish of peppery bourbon, bakers chocolate, smoke, and lingering charcoal.

M - A moderately thick body, low carbonation, and a balanced finish.

D - well, it is a little low on carbonation, as feared, but it is in not excessively sweet and it is wonderfully complex. The dark chocolate is not excessively sweet but has an intensely dark character to it that works well with the whiskey notes. Dense and complex with a sweetness that lingers just a bit more than it should.

Bourbon Barrel-Aged Angel's Share is a quite nice barrel-aged strong ale. Still... it could have been much better. I had this later in the night so I was a bit drunk. My notes aren't the best as a result.

A: Dark black with noticeable sediment and particles floating around. 3.5

S: Sweet malty. Barnyard. 3

T: Malty with some bourbon barrel. Sharp Bourbon-alcohol. yum. 4

M: Foamy. 4.

O. 4.

I'm all for a heavy beers, complex beers, unusual beers; I can appreciate that a lot of work went into this one, but this poorly-conceived beer simply isn't enjoyable to drink - it doesn't work.

Appearance: As many have noted, one immediately notices when pouring that this beer has very little carbonation. There is no head to speak of. As for color, it is deep and dark, like oil.

Smell: The smell is predominantly bourbon and caramel. A little one-sided.

Taste: It tastes like a sticky, syrupy, diluted bourbon. The alcohol is front and center, but it has a cloying and thick saccharine bitterness to it that makes it very unappealing to drink. It's only about 1% of beers that I wouldn't bother to finish - if this one hadn't cost so much I would have just chucked it. It really was a chore to drink. It is unfathomable to me why this beer isn't more carbonated - it's absolutely necessary.

Mouthfeel: Medium body, syrupy. Lack of carbonation makes it feel sticky and heavy.

Perhaps other reviewers got versions with more carbonation, which would have helped a lot; as it was, I thought it was a terribly-executed beer. And I was going into it expecting it to be fantastic. Perhaps the biggest letdown of a beer I've ever had - the price is absurd for the quality.

12.7oz bottle into a snifter.

A: Mahogany body with a small beige head.

S: Huge coconut and vanilla tannins, warming alcohol, prune, caramel.

T: Rich caramel, spiced raisins, chocolate, creamy vanilla, booze-soaked oak, sweet toffee.

M: Moderate carbonation, medium-bodied, creamy.

O: Extremely tasty thanks to the awesome barrel character. I'd take this over Deliverance any day.

Clearly printed "BOURBON 2012" on the neck of the bottle. Nice 12.7 ounce corked bottle.

A - Hazy brown, slight lacing. A touch of burgundy in the body and orange hues on the edges.

S - Deep, dark bourbon bouquet. Its sweet and viscous in the nose, with strong aromas of oak and alcohol. A dark sugar complexity with molasses and brown sugar. An earthy dryness and whiskey kick.

T - Deep and rich taste. Dark, sugary sweet bourbon. The alcohol is spiced, warming, and tingly in the finish. The oak stands through plenty but is smooth and mellow with the amount of sweetness present. This is my favorite bourbon barrel beer to date because it doesn't have that fiery bourbon kick in the throat. This beer's abv is presented wonderfully and smoothly.

M - Medium bodied the beer is soft and luscious. Just enough carbonation to hold up to the sturdy body. Once again, its very easy drinking for its strength. Warming finish all the way down.

O - Delicious, complex brew with a lot of character and harmony.

Thanks to Ketan for picking this up for me on his trip to San Diego.

A. Pours a very dark, tobacco brown. Half finger of tight, cream colored head. Very uniform and good looking head. Lacing is excellent.

S. Wow, excellent. Dark, ripe stone fruit, raisin, vanilla, toffee, roasted cashew, and a healthy dose of bourbon. Pleasant roasted nuttiness.

T. Toffee, caramel, vanilla, and dark fruit. Big kiss of booze and some burn on the end. Little bit of earthy darkness from the barrel.

M. Full bodied, cloying, and marshmallow like.

O. A very nice brew, definitely holds up against some of the better. barrel aged strong ales and barleywines out there. Very glad to have enjoyed this one.

Review from notes. Thanks to ShanePB for sharing.

A: Pours a dark brown color with no head or lacing at all...does not bode well for this beer.

S: Nice aroma of bourbon, roasted malt, caramel, and a hints of dark fruit and chocolate.

T: Very nice flavor profile of bourbon, some oak and vanilla with brown sugar and caramel.

M: Totally flat. Not unexpected really based on previous reviews, but was still hoping this bottle was carbonated. Can see how it would be great with some bubbles.

O: Again, besides it being flat, I enjoyed this beer very much.
