A massive beer in every sense of the word. A stronger and more contemplative version of our Lost and Found Ale. Judgment Day is the base beer for our Cuvee de Tomme. Many of the Trappist Breweries produce a version of beer which ages incredibly well for many years to come. And, since none of us knows when the end of the world is coming, we suggest you stock up with lots of Lost Abbey beers so that when the end of the world magically appears from no where, you’ll have a beer or two on hand for even the stingiest of angels.

On tap at Lost Abbey in San Marcos. Quads are hit or miss for me and this one was the worst beer I had on my trip to San Diego. Really hard to drink this one.

Pours dark brown with a nice compact beige head that slowly leaves really nice curtains on the glass.
Smell of rich milky chocolate with lots of fig and raisin, plus vanilla. Caramel, cake, faint cherry, toffee, some dried plum, red apple chips, faint brandy. A nice dark fruity sweetness overall, sort of like boiling sugared dark grapes and cherries to make jam.
Dark fruit trumps the chocolate in the taste almost entirely, with huge clear raisin but also dark cherry, some lightly tart forest berries, overripe fig, date. A small ripe orange crispness in there too. Chocolate shows up a bit, some caramel, but dark bready malts follow, earthy, dense and rich as a quad should be. Hint of nut, a bit of cinnamon, some black pepper, faint licorice, faint anise, some vanilla.
Alcohol is really well hidden, with a small spike here and there reminding of brandy. Aftertaste has raisin, dark bread, a bit of cocoa. Smooth body and carbonation.
Not far from the classics, quality-wise, and surprisingly "obedient" for an US offering. Really cool!

On tap at Lost Abbey in San Marcos, CA.

A- Dark plum brown body, half finger white head without much retention time. For the style, looks about right but overall looks like it's low in carbonation. Not much lacing. Dark, slightly muddy in appearance.

S- Rich raisins, caramel, oak and a good whiff of booze. There is a lot of raisins in this beer, some dates and plums. Rich, but the booze is strong in this one.

F- Whoa, lots of raisins came out here. It's like a world raisin convention. Raisins, dried prunes, a bit of caramel, and a decent bit of booze even for the Quad style. Some spicy yeast rounds things out. It's quite intense and frankly, not that complicated of a beer.

M- Medium bodied, a bit thinner than expected but not too much so. Low in carbonation and quite boozy on the finish. It's a bit hard to drink, to be honest.

O- Strong beer with a good bit of boozy heat on it. It's nowhere close to being as good as the big Belgian quads, but still, it's a decent attempt. I think Lost Abbey can do better, but obviously I presume they'll keep going with what has worked at this point.

Final score: 3.75
