Belgian Strong Dark Ale |  12.00% ABV

Notes/Commercial Description:
A stronger version of our Lost and Found Abbey Ale brewed to a more contemplative alcohol content. Massive in every stretch of the brewing way possible this is the sort of beer that will remind a beer drinker who considers themselves a saint that even saints stray as sinners from time to time.

Pour is dark, almost opaque with a thick head that gives way to a creamy lacing. You can tell from the smell that this is a Belgian dark ale, with a strong strawberry smell, rich caramel and a hint of alcohol. Rosemary is also present in the nose, with a hint of pine. Light carbonation with a very complex flavour - the raisins give the drink a very wine-like taste, but with alcohol spiciness, caramel sweetness and a powerful rosemary taste that I found a bit too overwhelming. Medium-dry finish. A very complex beer, that's interesting right from the start, but becomes a bit too overwhelming as you go.

On tap at Lost Abbey in San Marcos, CA.

A- Muddy, dark brown body with one finger off-white head, lots of retention time and longevity. No lacing.

S- So, raisins dominate here with caramel, dark fruits- figs in particular- with bubble gum, cloves, a bit of yeasty Belgian spice. Somewhat boozy but quite complex in the nose.

F- Also with a ton of raisins, a moderate amount of alcohol booziness, caramel, cloves, yeast. Mild earthy bitterness on the finish accompanied by sweet raisin, caramel. Quite intense overall, it is very heavy on the raisins but quite tasty.

M- Medium body, lower on carbonation. Quite dry, slightly boozy and sweet finish mixed in with a bit of bitter earthiness.

O- Very solid BSDA, quite heavy on the raisins and dryness with a lot of intensity. Overall works together well, but this is definitely a bottle to split with friends.

Final score: 3.95
