By far the hardest time I've ever had removing a cork.
A - Pours a deep black with brown twinges on the edges. The head is big and brown, yet my only gripe is the length of time it stays around. It's like a thief in the night. Nice lacing.
S - Chocolatey goodness... no booze in the nose despite the 11%. Roasty toasty. Hints of molasses and caramel. Nothing hugely complex or mind boggling, but a wonderful example of the style.
T - It's a big, chocolatey kick in the teeth at first, yet the finish leaves a bit to be desired. There's not much to it. Chocolate, chocolate, more chocolate. No real coffee affects, just some chocolate and some booze.
M - Quite frankly, the worst feeling double stout I've ever experienced. It's carbonated like soda... it feels just like a fizzy drink in my mouth. Where it should be small and even, it's SPARKLING and CRISP. The beer is actually quite thick underneath, yet the carbonation just sucks. I find myself swirling the beer to make it flat.
D - It's fairly drinkable despite the over-carbonation. The taste is nice and there's nothing to detract.
Notes: Like most Lost Abbey beers, this has one GLARING flaw... the mouthfeel.

On tap at the brewery in San Marcos.
Pours black with a short-lived head that leaves little lacing.
Aroma: moderately strong and dominated by dark-roasted malts.
Flavor: more funky and less fruity than the aroma, but not challenging to drink. Lightly bitter finish.
Feel: medium body; medium-light carbonation.
O: good, not great. High ABV is too obvious.
