Poured into a nonic pint glass: inky black with a decent head. Some lacing, but it didn't stick around long.
Smell was boozy at first, but mellowed with warming. In fact, the entire experience of this beer improved with warming.
Taste was excellent to start: caramel, dark fruit predominate. My kinda taste, very sticky. Warming intensified the flavors and added some depth. Really couldn't taste the alcohol, probably to my happy detriment.
Mouthfeel plenty of carbonation, I thought, initially, but that mellowed, also, with warming.
Overall, an excellent example of the style. I'll buy it again.
