Finally getting around to putting in some old notes.

A: It almost looked like cable care but without any real head retention. Very hazy straw/ golden color. For a beer served on tap a nice amount of floaties in my glass.

S: The citrus jumps out at you at first. Tart nose. Little bit of oak. Quite funky.

T: I really loved this beer. The citrus combined with the sour was very intense. It was like a lemon was crapping in my throat and I mean that in the best possible way. I had quite a bit of this and it really started to get to me. As it warmed the sour faded and a little more fruit came through.

M: Light bodied. Well carbonated. Even with the intense sour I loved it.

D: Awesome beer. This beer alone grew my lust for Duck Duck Gooze. An awesome beer and a nice treat for a style that is fairly har dto come by.

On tap at Beachwood BBQ Sour Fest.

A: A quite hazy golden color with little to no head. Expected that from this beer, though.

S: Very, very tart. A lot of lemon and some bread characteristics.

T: Not exactly what I was expecting, especially having had Duck Duck Gooze. Lots of tart fruits, lemon, kind of musty.

M: Made my mouth pucker a bit. Light in body, with a high level of carbonation.

D: It was very interesting and tasty, but the sourness was a bit overwhelming at points.

On-tap at Beachwood BBQ,

A: Pours a dark goldenrod with pratically no head, light bubbles, unblended lambic though, I expect some stillness, but it seemed dull at times.

S: Interesting - clear as day sourdough bread, some malt vinegar, lemons.

T: Very different from the other LA Duck beer - Duck Duck Gooze. This one starts out with a direct barnyard fermented fruit, hard to pin down, like a mix of lemons and nutmeg. The finish is distinct, with a fascinating almond note that reminded me of Pumking. Complex, strange, but darn tasty.

M: Rather thinnish body, more sour and lighter on the tongue than Duck Duck Gooze.

D: It's very rare to try an unblended lambic type beer like this and it is always a treat. These beers are always intriguing and this one is no different.

Big thanks to Tim for getting me two small handbottles of this from the Anniversary party.

A: Pours a hazy pale yellow with very small, if any, head. Translucent but a nice chill haze.

S: Very tart lemon, very floral and very fruity. Some bready scents coupled with lemon, tart cherries and tart passion fruit.

T: Very similar to the smell and pretty sweet with passion fruit, cherry and tart lemon. Very flavorful and pretty darned sweet.

Overall, this is a great beer and on the sweeter side compared to most sours. Thanks again Tim!

Sampled at the Lost Abbey 3rd Anniversary party, reviewed from notes. Into a pint glass.

A - Pale straw yellow. Thick, tight one finger white head. Light on the lacing, but my glass can't necessarily be called "clean," at least in the most controlled terms.

S - Major horsey funk and lemony citrus. Orange & tangerine come through. Herbal notes among the horseblanket and hay. Zesty.

T - Lemon/lime citrus abounds. Lemony sourness dominates most flavors. Some horsey funk and herbal earthyness in there, but this is almost completely sour, lemony citrus. of course, that is a very, very good thing. some hay and minty notes as well. not quite deep enough for a perfect 5, but very nice indeed.

M - Super light body and dry as a bone. Light, crisp finish. big bubbled, champagney carbonation.

D - For a sourhead, very high. Very sour, but not so much that it's a challenge to get through. Low enough abv that a few pints is feasible.

On of the closest American beers to a true Gueuze I've had. If this is just the base beer, then Duck Duck Gooze is sure to be an instant classic!

Lost Abbey event at Toronado last night. This one was one of the highlights.

A: Straw yellow, golden color with a nice frothy head. Not much lacing.

S: Sour citrus, some moderate funk. The smell on this is amazing. As the previous reviewers mention, it's moderately sour. A ton of complexity and depth.

T/M: The first Lost Abbey sour that has blown me away. This one was great. Nice crisp, dry, lambic-style beer. Liked that it wasn't ridiculously over-the-top sour. This stuff was amazingly drinkable. Could have had it all night if there weren't so many other amazing beers on tap.

D: See above

I'm disappointed to only see 6 reviews on here. I guess that means this isn't a normally released beer. How is it different from Duck Duck Gueze? Either way, I hope they sometime put it in a bottle.

Drank a whole bunch of this with bring tonight at Toronado.

Appearance: Hazy, milky tarnished gold. Pours with little in the way of head or lacing.

Smell: Lactic sourness, lemon peel and mild to moderate funk. Despite the name, this one isn't over the top in the funk factor; it's more a base beer you would use to add acidity to a blend.

Taste & mouthfeel: Beautifully sour, this beer encapsulates the qualities I enjoy in a wild ale; firm acidity, moderate funkiness and a crisp, drying finish. Way too easy to drink, the acidity does little to quell my desire to quaff this stuff like a 40 of malt liquor. Two glasses later and I was still wanting more, and frankly would have got more had it not sold out.

To my surprise this was available on tap at Lost Abbey during the Red Poppy release. Had two tasters of this, it was the first beer I had as soon as I got there and the last one before I left.

The beer is a vibrant, clear, golden color with very little foam, only a tiny ring. An amber hue on the sides.

The aroma was amazing, lots of pineapple, green apples, cheese, pears, and hints of caramel and toasted sweetness. Lemon peels began to show up as it warmed up as well as a butterscotch aroma in the background. Oak, vinous, and vinegar aromas in the back as well.

Acidic upfront with flavors of lemon, pineapple, green apple, un-ripe cantaloupe, and a bit of lemony vinegar in the finish. Dry, tart, and refreshing finish. A bit of caramel sweetness upfront, not as sour as the aroma led me to believe, it's more acetic and tart with loads of apple and pear flavors.

Very low carbonation and a tad syrupy in the finish, but still very easy to drink. Wish there was just a tad more carbonation and it would really make this one shine, but spot on for the style.

Had this today at the Red Poppy release. It was an incredible beer.

The appearance was golden, pinkish, straw color with absolutely no head.

The smell was as sweet and funky as the best Cantillons.

The taste was citrusy and sour with some distinct flavors I was unable to distinguish (maybe it's duck?).

This is a totally great beer.

Had at the Green Flash 6th Anniversary

A - Hazy orange straw with no head or lacing

S - Strawberry and vinegar

T - Strawbeery and vinegar. Interesting vegetable backnote that is hard to place

M - Medium body with no carbonation

D - Very easy to drink and very enjoyable. They need to bottle this

My favorite of the Lost Abbey barrel tasting on 11/15/2008. Poured a vibrant pale orange with a small white head, decent retention, and little lacing. The aroma is of funky ethyl acetate, some peach, lemon rind, apricot. At the tasting Floydster mentioned graham cracker, and I definitely noticed that as well. Flavor was acetic and tart. The light fruits found in the nose were also present in the flavor. The tart apricot/peach flavor was strong and the sour and dry finish was really enjoyable. The mouthfeel was a mildly astringent and the carbonation was abundant. I cannot wait to try this again. Definitely the highlight of the night for me.

Three tasters last night at the Lost Abbey Barrel Tasting Party, skipped Isabelle Proximus and other brews so I could drink more of this, reviewed from notes, served in four ounce flute glasses

A-Color was a bright golden orange with some lighter highlights, champagne-like bubbly white head that lasted a few minutes, decent retention, minimal lacing but some legs
S-The name is fitting as far as the funkiness goes, I picked up quite a bit of apricot and peach tart in the aroma, also some graham crackers as weird as that might sound, nice mix of fruit and sour scents
T-This stuff was awesome, it had a very nice tart welcome mixed with orange fruits, funk made up the middle and was similar to the type you would taste from a saison brewed with brettanomyces, fruity and slightly sweet in the finish, aftertaste was nice and sour, that never went away either once it warmed, more fruity flavors came out though and apricots were pretty dominant by the end, the mix between funk and tart was quite enjoyable and unlike anything I have had in the past
M-Tarty, funky, dry, and aggressive mouthfeel, medium bodied, nice strong level of carbonation, taste lingered nicely
D-This stuff was way too easy to drink, ABV was not known but they said it was probably close to six percent or even a little less, light on the stomach and very inviting, great flavor that keeps you coming back for more

We were not told too much about this brew other than the fact that it will be one of the barrels that is blended to make Duck Duck Gueuze in the future, this was also the hit of Green Flash's 6th Anniversary Party earlier in the day according to several people who went to that one, could not get enough of this, do not know the likelihood of ever having this again but I would jump all over it if I got the opportunity, highly recommended
