Pours an amber apple cider color with an antique white head. Mouthfeel is thin, watery, finishing dry. Very tart flavor of dusty fermented sour apple. This is not my style, but seems average to just above average for this style. It seems to compete with some of the more renowned sours from NoCal.

Tap at Armsby Abbey for Lost Abbey takeover.

Pours a light fizzy head, dark murky brown color.

Nose has dark fruits, tart fruits, a sour mash malt, lots of fruit, hint of caramel, brown malts, etc.

Taste is super fruity, lots of tart cherry, sour malt, brown malt, almost but not quite cough syrupy like, plenty of balotin cherry, sweet malts and syrup, bit of acidity, not flemmy either, dry finish, super tart as well, more cherry and a bit of fruit lingering. Fairly sweet overall.

Mouth is med to lighter bodied, good carb.

Overall not bad, decent flanders, nice fruits, malts, sour and tart flavors, not really acidic or flemmy, fairly drinkable.

Since I'm a fan of the regular Red Poppy I made sure that I grabbed some of this at the EBF 2012. The beer poured out as a cloudy looking brown color with a tan colored head on top. The smell was BIG, this sucker has lots and lots of sour aromas coming off of it. The sour cherry and wooden barrel aromas are one of the strongest I've smelled in a beer here. The taste of the beer made me realize how much strong this beer can be, I actually made a face when swallowing this brew. The oak flavors with all that extra cherry really kick you in the teeth. The mouthfeel was similar the regular version I thought. Overall it's a very tart beer with a lot to offer to people who really enjoy this style. I still prefer the original version over this one though.

On tap at Armsby Abbey. About an 8oz. pour served out of a wine glass. Reviewed from notes.

Served with a 1.5 finger fine, pink cream colored head with good retention. Beer is a cloudy mud water color. Lacing is spare and spotty. I know it contains fruit puree but the color is very off-turning.

Nose is sweet cherry and spice. Super clean and simple with a robust fruit presence. Moderately aromatic.

Opens cinnamon spice. Cherry and raspberry puree. Incredibly rich, thick, sweet red fruit with some mild tartness sprinkled in. Really unbelievable how much of a fruit component is in this one. Finish is more red fruit with a sweet, tart aftertaste. Possibly the best Flanders Red I've ever had.

Medium bodied with low carbonation. Smooth in the mouth and smooth going down. Messy finish with a pleasant, lingering aftertaste. Really thick here but excusable because of, again, the immense fruit component.

Never mind this being a Flanders Red or Wild ale, this is possible one of the best fruit-based beers I've ever had. Absolutely incredible.
