Straight from the barrel at the Lost Abbey Barrel Tasting '09. This may have been my favorite of the night (or maybe second to the Veritas 006), although others didn't really seem to agree.
Black in color with a small tan head.
Aroma is roast, chocolate, wood, and sweet port, along with some sour red grapes.
Flavor is complex and amazing, with roast, rich dark chocolate, barrel, vanilla, and lots of port. Mostly sweet but some tartness is definitely in there as well. I don't know how strong this is, but I assume it's not exactly your granny's earl grey tea. ABV was well-hidden.
Palate is very smooth and mildly acidic with low carbonation - but not too low as some Lost Abbey beers have been known to be.
Drinkability was great for a port -bal aged imperial stout. Overall I thought this was incredible, but then again, I'm really a sucker for port and imperial stouts, so this was somewhat of a match made in heaven.

Poured from the barrel at Lost Abbey's -bal fest. This was the final beer of the evening, and my notes are brief. Paired with some delicious chocolate ginger cake. The beer is black, opaque and completely still. The nose is roasty with a bit of spicy licorice and a tart vinous quality. The base beer almost overwhelms the delicate barrel aroma. On the palate it's a different story, the vinous element is right up there with the roasted (almost burnt) malt flavor. It's a little solventy and rough mid-palate, semi-sweet with some dark fruit flavor lending complexity. Finishes tannic, dry, roasty and bitter. This was pretty good, I'm not a huge fan of the base beer and unfortunately the -bal aging didn't make it significantly better.

Jet black with no head or retention, this is still an attractive beer due to it's absolute blackness. The nose is great with a vinous port character working well with the underlying chocolate and roast. Mildly creamy, this is quite delicious. Mildly fruity too.
The palate opens roasty with an excellent burnt malt character countered by the port. Mild sour fruit with grapes, mildly sweet, boozy and tannic at the same time. Great chocolate character with coffee is present in the back. The finish is mildly bitter and roasty, this is one thoroughly enjoyable beer I hope I get to try again in the future.

Consumed at the 2009 Lost Abbey Barrel tasting on 11/07/2009 and paired with some manner of ginger cake. I imbibed an 8oz of this stuff straight from the barrel. It appears grave black with a tiny head.
The nose is boozy dark chocolate with vibrant vinous notes. It's reminiscent of a fine port. I detect ripe grapes, plums, and a slight roast. Booze is strong.
The flavor reminds me of an aged serpent stout (subdued alcohol and roast) with an added port character. It's quite tasty. It's a shame Overlord wasn't able to try this one; I have no doubt it would have been his favorite beer of all time. The mouthfeel is smooth and creamy with a moderate ripe grape moon blood atmosphere. Eerily howling winds do not do this justice.
