I'm not usually one for "landmark" reviews, but I notice that this is my 100th review of a beer on-tap...

Served in a 10oz nonic at Blue Palms Brewhouse. The keg was very fresh and had just finished chilling when I got my glass.

Opaque cerise body is suffused with ruby highlights...an almost neon beer. A dense magnolia head is pasted over the surface and leaves no room for complaints about carbonation.

The acidity is palpable from across the bar - a bit of funk comes out in the nose as well suggesting Brett. and a variety of sour fermenting fruit.

Bracing sourness on the palate surpassing my expectations - along with a distinctive undercurrent that is very difficult to describe (I can't identify an analog for this flavor), possibly from the choice of yeast coming together with other micro-organisms. A lactic tartness is combined with a hint of unripe wild strawberry and a singular mixture of almost kombucha-like fungal/bacterial elements. The sourness and funk seem to unfurl exponentially as the beer warms. There is fruit throughout, but it isn't easily identifiable, and is likely derived more from the character of Cabernet franc grapes than from any actual berries, plums, etc. The oak adds a very delicate flavor as well, suggesting sweet wood, but otherwise gets out of the way.

Faintly tannic, but otherwise smooth medium-light bodied, and well carbonated (but not overly so).

Maybe not quite on par with Supplication for an all-round beer drinker, but for a sour lover, this is as easy to imbibe as it is difficult to describe...an exceptional ale, well worth seeking out.

Reviewing the infamous Veritas 007 from The Lost Abbey out of San Marcos, California.

Score: 95

2010 vintage bottle served in a stemmed Cantillon flute and enjoyed on 04/26/14. Review is from iPhone notes.

Appearance: Pours a translucent, vibrant orange color with a finger of fizzy white head that settles to a thin layer. 4.75/5

Smell: Fruit, grape, vinegar and lemon. Light must and funk. 4.5/5

Taste: Tastes just like it smells. Musty, tart grape, a little lemon and a light vinegar character without any big acidic bite. A little grapefruit too and a kiss of oak. 4.5/5

Mouthfeel: Medium carbonation, light bodied -- both appropriate for the style and flavor profile. Has a nice dryness and acidity that help accentuate the tartness, though this beer is not as puckering as an Upland sour. 4.5/5

Overall: Was expecting more funk, but this beer pleasantly under-delivered on the funk character. This was one of my favorite beers from the Veritas series that I have had the opportunity to sample.

Cost: $250 for a 750 ml bottle (secondary market price).

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Deep hazy orange with no head. A few bubbles and a thin collar. Not a lot else going on.

Smell - Citrus acidity and some grape/white wine like fruits. Oak.

Taste - Quite sour. Light fruits surround the sourness. Some malts. A bit of acetic acid and oak in the finish.

Mouthfeel - Medium body. Oaky and dry. Low carbonation.

Overall - This has probably lost a lot of complexity over the years. Pretty good right now though.
