Underwhelming...sorry, but I need to be honest here. It's underwhelming...the nose promises so much more than the taste delivers...(which is ironic since its called "Deliverance").

From notes...

A- Pitch black on the pour but ruby red through the light...beautiful...no head whatsoever.

S-Dark fruits, molasses, soy sauce, something kind of pumpkin like...pretty freaking amazing!

T-Dark fruits, molasses, cocoa, vanilla, licorice, w-sauce...everything the nose promised but just weak....pretty underwhelming.

M- No carb whatsoever....which is fine for a seriously barrel aged beer.

O- The taste doesn't deliver what the nose promises. The nose on this is fantastic...creating a desire that is not fulfilled in the taste. It's underwhelming...don't get me wrong, it's a great beer, it just doesn't live up to the nose....oh and the alcohol is nowhere to be found....be careful with this one.

L: Pours jet black and viscous. Aggressive pour caused a bit of foam to rise up, but it was mostly an after though

S: Sweet bourbon -- no doubt about where it was aged. Rich malts, residual sugar, toasty grains

T: Bourbon leaps out and grabs you. After spending an hour and a half drinking the beer, it became better balanced as it warmed up. By the end, either my palate was used to the bourbon or it had balanced itself out, because it was not so forward. The residual sweetness and thick body balanced the alcohol well. There was no burn at all.

F: Thick, sweet. Finish lingers for an insane amount of time. Can take forever to drink this beer if it is savored.

O: Wasn't initially impressed, but as time went on, the beer got better and better. By the end it was one of the better beers that I have had. It was on pare with a bourbon county stout that had been aged for five years. The difference is that the goose island beer is less than half the price -- if you can find it.
