Bottle (2011)

5th Annual Barrel Night
The Lost Abbey
San Marcos, CA

Hazy dull orange with a very thin off-white head with very little visible carbonation. This doesn't leave much to any stick on the glass.

A very mild aroma consisting of some citrus and a mild oak character, but everything is still very young and mild.

The flavor too is very mild with a hint of citrus and oak and a very, very mild sour character.

Light to medium bodied with low carbonation.

An interesting insight into the creation of the next iteration of Duck-Duck, but not a special beer on its own.

On-tap at Lost Abbey.

A: Pours a murky orange color with no head.

S: Just an overall unpleasant aroma. Smells like a 6 month old homebrew sour. Cereal/cherrios on the nose with damp sawdust and a weird salty and umami character.

T: The flavor isn't much better. Very lightly tart with some sweet candy and melon flavors. It's still salty and heavy on the sawdust, though. Intensely musty, too.

M: Light to medium in body with very minimal carbonation.

O: This needs a lot of time or just to be thrown away.

Served at Lost Abbey's 2011 Barrel Night. "Project X is our spontaneous fermentation program. Many of these barrels will make their way into the 2012 release of Duck Duck Gooze."

A: Hazy orange with a small mass of bubbles.

S: Slightly salty, with notes of plastic and kelp. Light savory characteristics. Hint of citrus with oak.

T: The taste is better than the aroma. Brackish with a light citric acidity. I get faint citrus and a moderate lactic note. The beer is lightly tart.

M: Lower medium body with low carbonation.

Overall: Young, but shows promise. Interesting to try the single barrel but I wasn't eager to finish my pour.
