Picked up a bottle of this at my local bottle shop

A: golden-orange. very thin white head

S: oranges, honey, jasmine, slight hint of funk. Smells like a belgian blonde

T: This pretty much tastes just like a belgian blonde. It certainly doesn't have the standard Brett hallmarks that I was expecting. There is a very subtle grassy, lemon funk in the background, but it is overshadowed by the malt. It is sweeter than I expected it to be. Maybe the brett has not developed very much.

M: Medium carbonation with a mouth-coating body. It is light, but it sticks with you

O: This is a good beer. Maybe a bit sweet for my tastes, but tasty. However, for a beer that was fermented with 100% brett, I can't really tell. Maybe it needs more time in the bottle. I wouldn't go out of my way to try this again, especially when Orval is about the same price.

The Lost Abbey

Slightly hazed golden yellow with a thick near-white head that leaves rings of lace down the glass. Very pretty.

Mild aroma, though what's here is very nice: mild citrus, mild funk, earth, and wet tree bark.

The flavor is quite nice. I've had this two times now, and this on-tap pour at The Lost Abbey is significantly better and significantly more funky than the keg pour I had at the Firestone Invitational. The flavor follows the aroma, with mild citrus, moderate bitterness, and earth dominating, with distinct Brett presence, though I belive the Brett really will develop nicely.

Medium to full bodied, slightly creamy, with moderate carbonation.

Very nice. I'd love to buy a bottle of this and just forget about it for years.

Hefty chunks of haze throughout the yellow beer, nice pristine white head on the top of it. Mild aroma, immediately was thinking more biere de garde type of thing moreso than a wild ale. Just lots of bretty and bready going on. Just the slightest bit of mild citrus, like they took 1/20th of a valencia (that's a juice orange!) rind and threw it in the barrel.

Taste, definitely not sour, again, more like a biere de garde, lots of biscuity, breadyness to the beer, thick mouthfeel. Seems like this may be uber fresh without giving time for the brett to do more of its thing. Comparing this to Sanctification does a major disservice to Sanctification. This pour, tasted nothing like Sanctification. There's no bacteria here, just brett yeast strains. Don't go into it expecting a sour beer.

Plenty gritty, teeth sticking aspect of the beer. Drank at the FW invitational. Never picked up any oak from it.

This beer pours a cloudy yellow color, with a thick, light yellow head. The fluffy head fades very slowly, leaving a thick lace.

This beer as a Belgain funky aroma. I detect a mild banana presence. Slight clove as well. Some coriander and grains of paradise mix in.

This beer tastes like it smells. Funky, with some banana and spice flavor.

This beer is well carbonated. It leaves a spicy, clovey aftertaste.

This beer would make a decent session beer. The funkyness might become cloying after a while though.

Overall: This beer was one of the first rare beers I learned about in 2004 when I was making my journey into craft beer. I have wanted it since then. Now that I have had it, i feel let down. it want bad, but I put it on a pedistal.

A- This beer pours a slightly hazy dense orange body with the second pour being chucky. There is a light beige thick meniscus of head that is supported by strands of microbubbles.

S- The aroma of boiled corn has a slightly sweet yeast aroma in the finish.

T- The over cooked corn taste has a slightly sweet green hops candy hint the turns into a pale malt sweetness as the beer opens up.

M- The medium-light mouthfeel has a slippery texture and no alcohol heat.

O- I’m glad I got to try this beer as it is a very interesting experiment but I didn’t care for the cooked corn flavor at all. I really like brett when it is aged in Belgian beers and perhaps a different strand of Brett would be more enjoyable but this one was tough to get through.

Everything about this beer was pretty solid. Served at Toronado SF on tap.

Smells more of a hybrid of a Belgian Strong Pale and Saison, with hints of funk and hay. Taste is much the same as the nose but more citrus. Oranges and Pineapple peeking through. Has that banana and light clove belgian finish that lingers for a while.

I'm thinking this beer needs time because the sourness rally isn't there and I'd prefer it to be much more pronounced. It's not really sour at all. Add that, and we have a home run. Mouthfeel more of a saison with that typical belgian flavor in the finish.

Very good beer but needs to be more sour to live up to it's name.

Happy to have tried this one.

If the intent was to brew a Belgian style ale with a pleasant orange citrus character, understated carbonation, then they did it spot on. Smooth mouthfeel. Decent drinkability with food. If this moderately bretted ale qualifies as a wild ale, then there are funkier beers around not listed as wild ales. Thanks Robert Bland for hooking me up.

375 mL bottle poured into a snifter. Reviewed from notes.

Appearance - Yellow hazy body. Not much head. Really yellow...

Smell - Brett all over, no surprise. Citrus, but faint. Not a lof of complexity. Wheaty.

Taste - Rather bland. Malty. Bretty and bready. Definitely not sour, but I knew that going into it. A bit fruity. Surprisingly creamy finish. Did not expect that,

Mouthfeel - Not light. The creaminess is really a bonus. Low-medium carbonation.

Overall - Unique, but kinda bland. Maybe age will make it more interesting. I missed out on a bottle of the original Mo' Betta Bretta and now I'm really intrigued to find out if it transforms into a masterpiece with age, if it's a completely different beer, or if people really are just tasting the rarity.

375 ml. corked bottle poured into a globe glass. This bottle pours golden with a furious cap of large bubbles that wanted out.

Aroma(cold) of a Golden Ale with notable yeast components and some wheat. Possibly a base for a Bavarian Wheat, who knows.

Taste of yeast and malt again. Nothing unique. No Brett. Zero..
Wow. My last Lost Abbey Beer ever. Feeble.. OK while that comment may be a bit extreme, it's not really that far off either..

Notable misrepresentation in my view..

Poured a deep cloudy orange with a thick and creamy white head that was very quickly with no lacing or retention to speak of.

The smell started it out nice and funky with a big barnyard like nose, but quickly turned into a more standard wheat style affair with big banana and clove notes overtaking the brett components.

The flavor reminds of a hefe with a touch of brett funk, mostly get a sweet banana/orange flavor with a bit of spices including clove and vanilla, there is just a touch of basement like Brett character sneaking through with a light minty hop finish.

The mouthfeel is tingly with carbonation, almost prickly and a bit thin like soda.

Overall I felt this to be a bit of a letdown, not enough Brett qualities especially judging it by the name and the very high price tag.

S: Clean pils malt, slight phenolics, some hay

L: Cloudy, golden yellow, little head

T: Belgian yeastiness up front with a clean maltiness. Medium low spicy bitterness with some phenolics following. Finishes clean with lingering spiciness.

M: Medium low carbonation, medium bodied.

Meh, pretty mediocre. Where is the Brett in this beer? Solid base beer, but little to no Brett aroma and flavor. Disappointing.

This poured with a thin carbonated head that wisped away quickly. The color is a yellow around the edges with a cloudy apple cider brown in the middle. The scent is a vivid clove with a sweet citrus note. The texture is smooth and light much like the taste. Smooth floral and citrus flavored yield to a banana nut finish. A fully enjoyable experience.

12.7 oz.bottle. Pours a golden amber with a small short lived white head. Aroma of biscuit malt, sour ripe white grapes, fruity and some Belgian yeast. Taste is sweet tart and sour fruity flavors, slightly champagne like, Belgian yeast. Palate is a medium body, crisp nicely balanced sweet and tart on the tongue, with moderate carbonation. Finish is a combination of sweet biscuit malt, wild Belgian yeast, with some ripe sour and tart fruitiness of apples and peaches. Almost reminds me of trippel. Overall has a nice flavor and nicely balanced. A well crafted and flavorful brew. Nicely done.

A: A bronze-orange coloring has a whirling amount of effervesce with some cloudiness and micro-particulate matter about. A chalky white head is sudsy and thin in stance not lasting very long while the lacing was bare.

S: Nose of muted oranges and wheat. None to funky, quite restrained with some indications of fresh wet grass.

T: Flavor of citric oranges and wheat. Flowery wet green hops and wet bread make up the general flavor with some hints of dried tropical fruitiness and dried honey. Some sweet grain juice comes on the close.

M: Bubbly carbonation, bready feel, heavy on the tongue with a flowery dried tropical leave off the tongue.

O: Overall the funk is very limited here, a bit of a dissapointment if your a fan of lost abbey with expectations of thier other beers. Fairly good but clearly not distinguishable. More of a bottle fermented strain of brett which is weaker and not as dominant.

Served in a tulip glass from a sturdy 375ml bottle.
Pale murky yellow orange, some light carbonation visible, thin cap of white foam. Skim breaks quickly, it didn't have that crazy rocky head like many Brett beers have.

Light aromas of pear esters and a generic Belgian yeast. Not getting much funk or farmhouse character from the Brett strain. Grainy like a BPA or Saison. Flavors are similar with a basic light pale malt sweetness, pear and apple flavors, and a watery thin body. Not really worth the $11 price tag... maybe this was released too early, it seemed the Brett was barely there if at all.

Appearance. Pours a rich gold with a little haze and half a finger of white head.

Smell. Brett funk, sweet light malt, pears and a drop of white wine, and some light belgian style spices.

Taste. Pears, banana and belgian spices, a little bit of funky brett, and some of that sweet light malt I could smell.

Mouthfeel. Medium+ body, medium+ smooth carbonation.

Overall. A very nice beer. Easy to drink, nice light flavours and a decent body with great smooth carbonation. What's not to like?

Poured from bottle into a tulip. Pours a hazy medium orange color with a foamy head.

There is a nice tartness to all of the aromas along with lemon peels, funk, and some citrus as well.

Medium bodied with a solid feel. Kind of lacking on the mid, but has a nice dry finish along with notes of lemon peels and citrus. The flavors are on the tart side.

A nice wild ale. This probably could've used more age as it was more subtle tartness than outright funk.

Bottle: Poured an amber color ale with a medium size foamy head with average retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of funky yeast is sourer then I would have anticipated. Taste is a mix between some sweet malt notes with some funky ester and light barnyard notes and a sour finish. Boyd is quite full with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Interesting but a bit underwhelmed and not sure this is one I would revisit anytime soon.

Pours dark golden... looks like apple juice and the light carbonation and nearly nonexistent head solidifies that image.

Nose is grainy with the brett showing only as some light lemon and dusty/grassy notes... really fruity and sweet with warmth.

Flavor is pretty much the same with an underlying sorta fruity sweetness... apple and perhaps apricot.

Very light carbonation ... bubbles only really show on the tongue.

Just not very good. Seems like a BSPA with only the lightest Brett character.

Smell: Yeasty - straight-up, yet mild Brett funkiness - some clean barnyard, mostly hay - some light tropical notes, like pineapple - lightly sweet, lightly cooked pale malts

Taste: Yeasty pineapples? - lightly tart, mildly funky - more mild than the aroma suggests - some light citrus, pineapples, and other light fruits - lightly spicy with some mild bitterness - perhaps a tad watery - pale malts, lightly sweet

Mouthfeel: Medium body, nicely carbonated, smooth with a clean finish

Overall: Strange, but worth a try

As one would expect, this is similar to its New Belgium counterpart. This is slightly more yeasty. Yet, overall this still has some flaws... It feels oddly unfinished. Tasty, but it lacks complexity.

A: The beer is hazy dark golden yellow in color. It poured with a finger and a half high off white head that quickly died down and left lacing on the surface and a thin collar around the edge of the glass.
S: There are light to moderate aromas of lemon and orange citrus in the nose.
T: Like the smell, the taste has flavors of orange citrus along with hints of sourness and tartness.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer feels a little heavier (and maltier) compared to other wild ales. It doesn't deliver as much sourness compared to other beers in the style but it still has some interesting properties and is very easy to drink.

A: pours a hazy orange with a slight yellow tint with a huge dense bone colored head with excellent retention into a Duvel tulip
S: smells fruity with a slight funk and some pale malt. spicy yeast as well
T: fruity, kinda pineappley with some spice notes more commonly found in a heffeweizen, just a bit of funk and a slight mustyness. swallow brings more sweet pineapple and fruitiness with a hint of funk
M: prickly carbonation and a somewhat light moutfeel, not quite watery but close. crisp and clean though
O: Not too bad fresh but I have a few more of these to age. good flavors and huge potential so it should be interesting to see what the brett does to this beer.

Nose is light on the brett and quite grainy....Belgian yeasty fruit comes out in droves.

Light fruits...honeydew, cantaloupe and strawberries. Brett is even lighter than the malt, which is hard to do with the malt being very crisp and grainy. Not enough brett for me, but it still is a pretty enjoyable beer. Worth the price? No...but it would be cool to see how this one would age.

Poured from a 12.7oz bottle into a tulip.

A: Pours a glowing gold with a nice white head.

S: Heavy weizen esters and unmalted wheat. Banana, slight clove, yeast, peach.

T: Mild spicy phenols, banana, clove, sweet wheat, green grapes.

M: Tingly carbonation, light-bodied.

O: At best it tastes like a mild hefeweizen with no funk or tartness. Might even be slightly worse than New Belgium's version, which at least passed muster as a good BPA/hefeweizen.
