"Enjoy after 12/21/12" printed on the bottle. Purchased in the summer of 2012 and it stayed in my cellar since. Figured 1 year old and it was ready, but after opening, this could have aged nicely for a much longer time im thinking.
Corked bottle poured into my crooked stave tulip (yes, prob should have been my westy chalice...but whatever).
Pours a deep black ruby color with a finger of tan head, that shrinks into thin floating lacing. Aromas of chocolate a huge, dried fruit/date/raison with a hint of heat in the nose. Flavor is dried fruit/raison, chocolate, clove, with a great spicey finish. Wow...this is really nice. Super smooth and full bodied. The dried fruit really shines here but what separates this from most quads is the slight heat in the finish. Really a great brew.
Based on reviews, it seems like this one needs age. Well, regardless, I really enjoyed this one.

Served chilled into a fluted tulip.

Pours a rich mahogany brown with an inch plus of dark tan head that slowly recedes leaving heavy surface layer and moderate lacing.

Aromas of dried fruits, coconut and cola.

Flavors are a combination of marzipan and Malibu rum. Dried fruits, caramelized sugars, coconut and spice. As it warmed I got hints of pepper, sour cherry and bittersweet chocolate.

Medium bodied and sweet with a surprisingly dry, crisp finish. Moderate carbonation and a lingering but pleasant aftertaste.

Surprised to see some of the lower marks for this beer. It was simply one of the most complex and flavorful beers I've had. I have yet to be disappointed by The Lost Abbey.

Drink after 21/12/2013

I was very sad to wake up on the 22nd of December last year to find that the world hadn't been overrun by zombies and in fact this year would have been a whole lot better had there been zombies to shoot :p Lets hope this beer can cheer me up.

Appearance: The beer appears a dark brown in the glass, with a back light revealing a beautiful deep red colour and bright golden-amber edges. A rough pour results in a massive tan coloured head that displays great retention and coats the glass in thick clumps of lacing as it recedes.

Smell: The initial nose seems very yeasty and is not all that good, but thankfully a little warming yields a big improvement. Big dark fruit notes (figs, raisins and plums) combine with dark bready malts, some lightly tart yeasty notes, sweet brown sugar, maybe a hint of cinnamon, a touch of chocolate and a little booze. As the beer reaches room temperature an odd sweetish note appears; I am guessing it is due to the tamarind as it is reminiscent of a dreadful tamarind beer I had a few years ago.

Taste: The flavour is sweet upfront with notes of dark fruits (figs, plums and raisins), bready malt and brown sugar, this fades into big yeasty notes (almost tart) and an out of place bitterness in the finish.

Mouthfeel: The beer is initially way over carbonated for my tastes, but a few vigorous swirls sorts it out. The body is medium and lightly sticky.

Overall: I really enjoyed the original Judgement Day, but this version is nowhere near as good. The additives are barely noticed and there was far too much yeast character (the beer was allowed to settle and the yeast wasn't poured into the glass) and a very out of place bitterness in the finish. I will certainly not be having this one again.
