Appearance: black, with very thin, tan head, that drops quickly. Poor lacing.

Aroma: very nice, coffee and roasted malts, some caramel in the back. Not intense, but very pleasant.

Taste: roastiness, coffee and malts. Rather dry. Bitterness on an average level. No alcohol aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: full bodied, medium to soft carbonation.

Overall: one of my favourite baltic porters. I like how it's dominated by roastiness instead of sweetness. It's not an "in your face" type of beer, rather one to sit with in the evening and drink one bottle for like an hour. Room temperature is this beer best friend.

Enjoyed from a snifter.

Another good Polish porter. Black with white bubbly head. Boozy, licorice, some interesting sourness. Mollasses, some smokiness. Some chocolate. Thanks Radek Kliber for bringing back.Average mouthfeel.Interesting, though not the best in style I have had.

Pours very dark brow, almost black with creamy off white head and good retention. Aroma is simple, yet pleasant roasted malt, coffee.

Taste is dominated by bitter roasted malt and coffee, bits of vanilla and dark fruit, dry and bittery finish, alcohol can not be felt at all. Mouthfeel is medium, low carbonation.

Overall, a very good porter with significant roasted flavours.

Bottle at Smocza Jama in Krakow I believe. From notes.

A - Poured black with very faint red notes when held to the light. No head, just a tiny ring of tan around the top. No lacing.

S - Great coffee and roasted malts. A little nutty. Mostly coffee. Best Polish beer aroma yet so that's saying something.

T - Alot of the same as the aroma. A little chocolate is added in there. A pleasant suprise. It's roasty with chocolate up front and then bitter with a coffee finish. It could be more aggressive with a fuller flavour, but it's good. It became sweeter and more cola-like towards the end of the bottle.

M - Nice mouth with medium body and good carbonation and a little dryness in the finish. Very soft and silky.

O/D - Nice beer. Couldn't detect alcohol, great taste and feeling. It got a little harsh towards the end but an entire bottle of this got me in a better mood. A good beer and probably the best from Poland I've had.

something about the old world baltic porters i really like, i just feel like all the new wave ones are so sweet and boozy, these things are simplistic maybe, but also refined to a seemingly higher degree sometimes. a buddy brought this to a bottle share and it was one of the sleeping giants of the night, had not heard of these guys before this mighty brew. its muted luster black, has an aroma of old drip coffee and lager yeast, with only the slightest clue of its strength and a roast thats more flavorful than bitter on the barley. there is a balancing hint of burnt sugar in the flavor, but thats the only sweetness that exists here, as coffee and mineral rich soil take over, and some minor oxidation, but not unflattering given the style. the lager yeast has done its job, probably painfully slowly too at this strength and dryness. it could stand a little more carbonation on the finish, but i like it being sort of heavy and ancient feeling. quality beer, i would like to try some more of their stuff, but have found the polish beers of the darker persuasion much more to my tastes than the pale ones. this was an unexpected treat, but its a style i think the united states is starved for, so it scratched an itch personally as well.

a nice porter with a good composition that seems to go a bit lean after a while. pour looks as it should with a thick quality of bubbles. nose of coffee but not overpoweringly so. some molasses subtlities and forest berries. soft baltic essence. the feel suffers and resultingly the taste is made quite one dimensional. although suprisingly not boozy at all.
