I'm just now returning from my visit to Peekskill Brewery's tap room. I had honestly never heard of the brewery, until recently, so I decided to drop in on the way back home from VT. I'm just glad there was daylight during the drive there, because that crazy mountain I drove around to get to the town would've spooked me out at night.

The tap room (and brewery) is situated in what seems to be a refurbished warehouse or factory of some kind, with a sort of contemporary industrial flair to it. There are two floors, but I stayed downstairs. The bar seated about 20 people, with additional standing and sitting area around the perimeter of the room. I bellied up to the bar, considering it wasn't too busy. The crowd was kind of annoying...not sure if there's a college in town, or if it's just a "hip" hangout, but I dealt with it.

There was a good selection of house brews on tap, about 15, as well as a cask, and a guest tap, which was something from Troegs. Nice options, with many different styles to choose from. I wasn't really *wow*ed by any of the beers, but they were solid for the most part. Sampler flights were offered, so I got a couple, trying such beers as Simple Sour, Aristocrats, the three Standards IPAs, the coffee IPA, and a couple others. Pretty standard stuff all over. Good, but not enough to make me want more necessary.

The service was bad. At any given time there were 3-5 bartenders working the bar. There are certain simple things you expect from bar service, which should be cardinal rules that all bartenders should generally adhere to. Among these are: offering water, offering beer, offering food menus, asking for food orders once the menu has been on the table for a while, giving utensils when the food comes out. I received none of these, apart from my original flight of beers...after that it was a full 15 minutes before anyone even glanced in my direction for me to flag them down. Just downright bad overall.

The food was pretty good. Options were pretty decent, ranging from typical pub grub apps to meat and cheese plate, to burgers, to larger/pricier entrees. I opted for the mac&cheese, which--after waiting for 5 minutes for utensils--was pretty tasty.

Prices were decent, but veering on the higher side. Sampler flights were 4 pours for $10, which seemed pretty steep to me, and the food menu prices were mostly acceptable, but a little crazier for some items--I saw someone get the 3-sausage plate, which intrigued me, but I didn't see $24 worth of food on that plate.

I'm definitely glad I checked this place out and experienced what they had to offer. If you put one of their beers in front of me, I wouldn't turn it down. But I wouldn't go out of my way to get their beers, or revisit the brewery, especially with the shaky service.

I have visited the brewery a few times since its less than an hour away but I haven't taken the time to review it until now. There new location which opened over a year ago is spacious and has a few different set ups. There is a full bar downstairs which opens later in the afternoon/evenings and then on the second floor is a half bar and seating for dining. The half bar is nice because you can grab a beer or 3 and a bite if you aren't looking for table service. Overall a great venue and clean space.

The beer is really good, I've tried a majority in my time there. If its Thursday or Friday definitely see if there is any cask left because its usually something new and exciting. If you love IPA's they wont disappoint you. Simple Sour is one of the best sour beers I have had and its really drinkable. Amazeballs, Eastern Standard, NYPA and Higher Standard are all good choices. Overall I would definitely recommend getting a flight because they have a great selection.

The staff is super cool and friendly. I have found them to be super helpful and seem to enjoy working.

The food is good. I have only ate at the bar and the menu has some good selections. I had the burger and again wasn't disappointed.

Overall this place is great, good location and they make amazing beers. Definitely family friendly and drinking friendly. Check it out and I hope to get back there soon. Cheers!

If I could have given a 0.00 for service, I would have. And the atmosphere rating suffered because of the poor service as well. A pretty busy Saturday afternoon with 3 or 4 people working? behind the bar and I couldn't get a 2nd beer after putting my empty glass on the edge of the bar [and having it taken away without being asked if I wanted another] and trying to make eye contact with someone. Great beer but the employees need some supervision or need to look at the patrons once in a while. I don't think it's too much to ask to have a bartender ask you if you want another, especially when someone takes the empty glass away. And I don't care if the person who took the glass away is a bar back and isn't allowed to pour; he can at least ask me if I want another and tell someone who can pour. If the beer wasn't so awesome, I wouldn't go back. Come to think of it, maybe I'll just get growlers from the place [if I can get anyone's attention to fill it, that is].

The food is overpriced and not very good. The beer however is worth it. They brew a lot of different beers, so there is something for everyone. They even have cask ales often. Most of the beers there are on the safer side (no extreme flavors or ingredients) but are not weak in flavor as is the case with a lot of brew pubs. The bar is on the first floor with giant glass doors that open in the summer and allow for a view of the river. I have eaten upstairs several times, always had problems though with food or service so now I stay downstairs.

My wife and I had our first "date" at the original location 3 years ago. Since they moved we make a weekly visit on our way back from work every week.

Service/Atmosphere
The service is amazing. They treat you extremely well and personally. Always willing to have us try new beers, or refresh our memory on ones we have had in the past, but haven't had in awhile. The place looks great, open, a lot of room and as a results isn't ridiculously crowded (read elbow to elbow) like the older place. There is seating upstairs for dining and a smaller bar, downstairs is more open with long tables and bar seating at the bar. All beers are available at either upstairs or downstairs bars. There is an open floor that allows you to look down through to the bar and people below, which is a nice touch.

Beer
What else can I say. Nothing touches this place in my opinion. I have brought friends and family here and they are now regulars or beg to go when we visit. Quality is a MAJOR focus here. The brew master is constantly checking glasses, lines, taps, and other equipment to make sure the product is 100% every pour. Every week they have a cask on of different varieties. They sometimes will mix two of their beers together for a cask or it will be a simulation run of a coming new or new batch of a previous beer. There is a beer for everyone, whether they are a craft brew "novice" or a genuine "beer snob"

Food
I thought it was a little more generic at the older place. Now I would describe it as "high end" pub food. Their sausages, which are a new addition are made in house and are outrageously good. The pork confit sandwich I highly recommend personally. The only reason it's not a 5 for food is because I can see how some people might find the recipes to be a little "pretentious", but if you give it a chance, everything is good.

Overall, if you go, you will want to go back!

This brewery is a standout amongst New York breweries and we are lucky to have a place that makes such great beer.

Very cool atmosphere, open spaces and great view of of the Hudson river and mountains.

Service is excellent. I have always drank and eaten at the second floor bar, the bartenders are knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. Brandon is the man and an asset to Peekskill. Growler fills on the first floor are done quickly, even had the Chief himself take me to first floor when it was closed to make sure I got a great growler fill out of the machine.

Selection of beer is outstanding. There are usually 10 or so beers on tap and the selection is consistently rotating. The beer ranges from solid to outstanding.

The food is pretty good, some stuff is really good, other stuff is only OK.

Prices for the beer are a bit high on the high side especially since it is coming straight from the source. But since they don't bottle and distribute I am guessing they need to maximize revenue at brewpub. Prices of growlers have increased recently and are pushing the limits as some fills are $26.

Great place, great beer and I highly recommend a trip there, especially if you are from NYC, take the train up. Awesome scenery on the trip and you can drink to your hearts delight.
