I had the pleasure to try this fine establishment after much buzz in my thread in the NYC section.
A big thank you to all those that recommended the place!

Located just a few blocks from Penn station and subway stations very close by. If you are with a female companion, or in my case my wife and mother, dad was with too. Then the shopping district is nearby if you want to linger they can go do their thing.

I walked a few blocks rather then take the train to scope out the area and skip the subway for this one. Walked along the Empire State Building and down the block to reach my destination. As I walked up my eyes scanned the block looking for a sign or something that would help me find the place. I saw an Irish flag blowing in the wind and thought, is that it or is it a coincidence?
Well it was it, but it really isn't an Irish bar, but a good sign that a bar is present. :)

We arrived at 1pm, meeting my parents and kplynch.
A narrow door opens and as I walk in, wood panels galore and a ginormous bar with many many taps await my feasting delight.
At this point I new dinner would be drank and not eaten.
The only employee there was the bartender, the waitress and the secretary. She did a badass job at all these tasks on her own too. She was quick, only brought me the wrong beer once and did a tremendous job.
Beers were brought out quickly. Food as well, which also was very good. I had a few cask pours and the cask offerings were very good. The food was actually better then a couple nicer restaurants we had visited and for a much lower price.

There were only a few tables occupied and 1 or 2 spots at the bar. I can imagine this place gets really hopping at night. But seating at this time was not an issue. There were several tv's in the place to catch the game, or watch Seinfeld re-runs. You see, later that night around 1:00 am my wife and I accidentally walked by the place again. So I said hey, how bout a beer? We went in and there were maybe 4 other people sitting at the bar with the waitress, a new one this time. They were sitting there watching Seinfeld dvd's lol.
The server quickly got up and went behind the bar. I thought it was somwhat romantic of the place to have its late night locals in there chatting it up and watching Seinfeld as the waitress had a seat and watched with them.

All in all a great beer destination that I highly recommend visiting. Prices are great and selection is even better.

I must confess to not having a whole lot of craft bar experience to use as comparison because once I had set foot in Rattle n Hum I was smitten. They have become the measure by which I regard all others & few match up.

Having over 20 years in restaurant kitchen experience, I have a pretty good idea what it takes to run a good show & at RnH they do a great job.

Some may find the beer selection confounding by the sheer number of choice. Even those with some knowledge will find areas for further 'research'. To top it off, the staff are always more than willing to (when time permits) to guide a novice.

I saw one comment somewhere, which rightfully observes the biggest drawback is their very success. Things can get pretty hectic during the "rush hours" but the staff always seems to keep up.

The rotating beer selection never fails to offer new choices. They have $5 pints during "Happy Hour(s)" that comprise most of the day. Every Tues night there are promotions & tap takeovers. The selections are presented on a large blackboard & printed on placemats. The printed presentation gives just about every detail of the beers, barring opinions. Customized guidance can always be had from the knowledgeable staff.

The food menu is pretty standard pub fare with daily lunch, dinner specials & weekend brunch & NFL items.

Most of the seats are at large family style tables & reservations are accepted. The restrooms are numerous, ample & well kept.

I prefer to go mid to late afternoons & stay for a few before the after work crowd. Even at it's most crowded, I find patrons & staff both to friendly & polite.

If there is one negative, it's that the kitchen can get backed up at times. Being a victim of your own success isn't the worse thing for a bar or restaurant.

Yogi Berra is quoted as saying "Nobody goes there anymore...it's too crowded." From what I've seen, the crowd seems to be willing to hang in for a quality experience, which is what you get at Rattle n Hum.

And finally...no, I am not employed by RnH, but do feel I've found some good friends there that deserve a pat on the back.

Another great beer bar, good food, great beer, and cask beer. I stayed down the street from here for a month and frequented this place quite a bit. The staff is friendly, and the beer is good. My favorite beer bar in Manhattan.

Rattle and Hum is the best beer bar I have found in NYC. If you are a craft beer fan, you must go to this bar in NYC.
