Irish Dry Stout |  5.20% ABV

Availability: Year-round

Notes/Commercial Description:
A thick creamy head sits atop the opaque blackness of this traditional dry Irish stout. Roasted chocolate and coffee notes make this beer a great treat.

I had this beer on tap and from a growler. They were essentially the same. The color is a nice brown and black. The head and lacing is not much to write home about.

I found the tastes and aromas of this beer were complex. This is a dry irish style stout so you don't get so much sweetness. I get coffee chocolate flavors with a hint of a toffee like finish. Then you get this dry light bitterness that ain't bad lingering on the tongue. Some may really like this. The carbonation is a little light and the beer texture is a bit watery.

In summary a nice refreshing stout. I enjoy drinking this baby with the music of the Cranberries playing "Linger" from the cd Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We?

Appearance - deep translucent garnet brown, minimal head

Smell - dark chocolate, roast, dark fruits

Taste - chocolate, followed by light roast, and a hint of anise

Mouthfeel - watery, but still quite smooth and drinkable

Overall - not a bad stout, flavors are there but watered down

Serving type: on-tap

I'm not sure who shared this, but I appreciate it.

The growler's fresh and looks well enough sealed, and it shows it by the development of the head. It's small, but it's not flimsy, and it doesn't dissipate too quickly. The pale cap does a pretty good job of keeping up for the session and manages a good moderation in the distribution of spotty and patchy lacing.
It seems like more of a breakfast-type stout than a Dry Irish; there's nothing particularly telling of the dryness. I do get something like flaked oats with a bit of weak coffee and a good chocolate presence. A quick look at the Granite City beer list tells me it's actually an Oatmeal Stout.
I get a little more out of the flavor. The coffee's not so weak, the oats add their own flavor and a bit of smoothness in it as well as it does in the feel, and the chocolate is nice in the decently big malts and the roast they add.
The oats make this beer flow smoothly, as intended. The body is big enough for a stout. I would tone down the crispness just a notch.
