Appearance: Amber-brown color. Small head but lacing sticks around awhile. A little thin looking but still looks appetizing.
Smell: Grain and malt, nothing really jumps out at me.
Taste: Prototypical bock malt flavors. It's on the sweet side. The menu mentions grapenuts. Don't think I would have come up with that myself, but I can maybe taste it a little with the prompting. Not detecting the advertised chocolate as much, though.
Mouthfeel: Pretty thin with a hefty amount of carbonation.
Drinkability: It's not terribly exciting, but that's doesn't mean it isn't easy to drink.
Notes: This was the first beer I've had from the "brewpub" chain Granite City. I'd say this at least met my expectations, which weren't enormously high. The slight deceit of calling Granite City a brewpub may irk some (I'll admit it does me), but I can't disparage this decent bock.
Serving type: on-tap
