The Two Pull was an interesting combination between the Northern Lights and the Brother Benedict Bock. The combination made for a decent tasting beer. I appearance was average lighter clear amber, not much head and no lace. The smell was a maltier version of the Northern Lights Lager. The taste was much better than the Bock by itsself. The Lager helped to smooth out the heavy grain/barley taste of the Bock. Mouthfeel was good the Bock gave the beer a little body and the lager made teh beer drinakable. Overall it was ok. teh IPA was much better.

Stayed right across from Granite City, just HAD to review thier brews:
this is thier "speciatly brew" :
the Two Pull is a blend of their Northern Light and Brother Benedict Bock beers.

A: Clear apple cider colored brew. modest head settles very quick. ZERO lacing.

S: not much to the nose here

T: not bad! nice BALANCE of hops and maltiness

M: nice carbonation, NO ABV bite, healthy hopiness.

D: this is really not bad at all. drink em down!

Very light brown color with an off-white head and nice carbonation. Fairly nice toasty grain aroma and flavor which is not suprising considering this is a mix between the Northern Light Lager and Brother Benedict's Mai Bock. It's amazing how this tasted just like a mix of the 2 but was somehow better... Fairly light in body with nice carbonation.

Decent enough but I hope this is not Granite City's lame attempt at passing this off as a seasonal... there was no seasonals on tap during my visit.

I'm not sure there are that many cases where you can take 2 very average beers, mix them together off the tap, and actually create a beer that is better than the individual attempts.

Tasted On-Tap 05/11/05 at the Cedar Rapids, IA location.

Tap poured into 22 oz. glass mug.

$3.25 / ea.

This beer is actually a combination of two of their other beers, Northern Light Lager, and Brother Benedict's Bock.

S: Roasted malt, and somewhat nutty. Reminds me of Newcastle Brown Ale. Pleasant sent, but nothing that really sets it apart.

A: Crystal clear light red to brown body and a small loose head that quickly dissipates with slight lacing, and very little cover.

T: Sweet roasted malt, and hints of roasted nuts. The menu description indicates chocolate, but I tasted nothing of the sort. Very low hop signature at 18 to 20 IBU's (description).

M: Light body, with medium to high carbonation. Very crisp, leaving a bit of a bite on the tongue.

D: Very drinkable beer. Light body, respectable taste, very cheap, and pretty tame. This beer is very accessible to almost any palette.

O: A good beer for a chain brewpub. It won't blow you away, but I would choose this over the likes of your typical macrobrew. I go to Granite City for the food, but I enjoy Two Pulls while I'm there.

Served as part of an 8-pour sampler flight at SLP Granite City.

Pour was lighter side of brown with a slight ruddy tint. Not a lot of head, and lacked lacing. Smell was lightly malty. Taste was similarly malty with a mild sweetness that finished crisp and dry enough not to be annoyingly sweet. Light body. Drinkable. Average.

Growler poured into a pint glass

Appearance: Light amber with off white head. Appears to have pretty good carbonation but not the lacing I was expecting.

Smell: Not a very powerful smell but it does have a nice sweet malty smell to it.

Taste: Sweet maltiness, just like the smell. It is balanced nicely but I can't explain how. It is just not too sweet but not too bitter either. It is a little lacking in any one particular flavor but I think that makes it a pretty good combination.

Note: This is a combo of Granite City's light and bock style beers. This is only the second time I have heard about combining beers like this but it works well this time
