Having gone to the trouble of getting Embers listed, the least I can do is enter the first review. We ended up at Embers on Dulcie and Aylwin's Big Beer Adventure in 2008. Joseph is way off the beaten track and not really on the way to anywhere, deep in the shadow of the Wallowa mountains in eastern Oregon, except maybe the back way to Hell's Canyon. It is a slightly hippy, artsy place, where no one really seems to have to work. The only reason we were there was to visit Terminal Gravity in nearby Enterprise. However, fate had it that TG was closed the day we arrived. Locals informed that Embers carried TG - and much more as it turned out.

The place is super casual and relaxed, and the atmosphere is hard to beat in the early evening with the sun setting on the steepling peaks of the mountains; just a gorgeous place to relax with a beverage. Besides TG, Stone's Arrogant Bastard was on offer - a first for us. There isn't a fantastic range of beer, but it's certainly good enough in a small town like that.

In a completely weird it's-small-world turn of events, the owner's daughter married the son of a friend of Dulcie's decades ago. That of course is entirely irrelevant to this review.

Amazingly, a craft beer establishment in the middle of downtown Joseph! It was a busy July 4th weekend, so the place was pretty full. A clean, uneventful dining room with a tiny bar. A large outdoor patio with mountain and main street views...pretty nice.

Once again, Joseph is an incredibly small, remote place...so service can be unknowledgable. The waiters seemed to be high school kids and/or locals that were trying their hardest. There was no beer menu/chalkboard, so I had to go to the bar and try and read the taps.

Considering their location, the selection was outstanding. A dozen or more taps of all the Oregon regulars. There were no imperials or reserve type brews, just the regulars. I was very happy to keep my weekend long beer buzz going here.

The food was about what one would expect from the menu and look of the place. Solid, but nothing I remember eating or anything that would make you want to return.

For a 100% tourist town, prices were never any more expensive here than any other place I've been too. Their deck is a great place to relax and have some classic Oregon pints at.
