.4 L on tap in tulip glass at Purkmistr Restaurant in Plzen-Cernice, Czech Republic

A - Deep brown with a dense head

S – Roasted malt and a waif of floral notes

T - Caramelized malt, coffee and toffee notes

M – creamy on the tongue, medium bodied with light carbonation

D – I liked this beer better than the semi-dark or Amber Lagers and was last in the tasting of the 4 draft beers served at the Purkmistr restaurant.

Poured almost black, with reddish mahogany highlights and a darkish tan head.

Aroma: mainly toasted malts, with less dark malt aroma than expected, let alone any burdt odors.
Hints of chocolate and dried dark fruits, but no coffee.

T - medium roasted malt with dried fruit and coffee overtones.

M - medium body with light but adequate carbonation. Smooth.

) - quite enjoyable, if ot particularly memorable, bold or distinctive. Easy to drink.

A - very dark, almost black and seems like hazy and full, not watery
S - smooth chocolate and coffee with malt
T - fantastic coffee taste with with coffee bitterness
M - nice carbonation, full body
D - this is very drinkable, however since there is so much coffee in its taste, you're kind of limited by being "over-coffeed"

This beer was part of the Wetherspoons Pubs Chain (UK) Beer Festival selection in September 2009.

Poured almost black, with tight bronze head. Aroma of toasted malts, coffee and chocolate, but hints of dried fruit sweetness too.

Unlike some Czech black lagers, this had some texture and body and was fairly full for its alcohol strength of 4.8%. Plenty of flavours right from the start, slightly sweet on the tongue but then dark roasted malts, coffee and dark chocolate hints dominated, but not in an aggresive way, making it easy to drink. A very tasty dark beer, yet not too overpowering, but more body than some other black lagers. I enjoyed this and would be happy to have it again.

This one is very dark - sometimes dark lagers can be watery looking, but this one looked solid and had hints of burgundy and a tan head.

There is a distinct hint of coffee on the nose, which is backed up in the drinking. The coffee though is not overpowering and in the background is the merest hint of cocoa.

The body is not as full and strong as some over Czech dark lagers, but it is still a filling beer - ideal for a nightcap.
