This beer is OK. It's not the worse American Amber Ale I've ever had. But it's nothing to write home about. Wait... I'm writing about it now. :/

A - Amber in color. Somewhat clear but it seems to have a little haze. The beer pours nicely with a white head... but <poof> it deflates as quickly as it rose. That was disappointing!

S - This is where it fell flat for me. It smelled old malt water. OK. A bit of a bad stretch here. But it did smell off.

T - It has some carmel malting to it. But I couldn't get past that soapy aftertaste.

M - Not a very lively beer. You can tell they force carbonated this beer and then it fizzled out? Dunno. Not much there. Very light but missing some life.

D - It's a drinkable beer. You could session this beer. I just can't get past that soapy aftertaste.

Pours a deep copper/bright orange hue with some haze and lots of visible carbonation and a thin lace of off white head. Smells of toffee, caramel, and a dark fruit bowl. Tootsie roll like on the nose. Floral hop presence hidden beneath it all.

Medium body that thins out a little on the finish. Good carbonation. Flavors are weaker than the nose. Some toffee flavors and dark fruit jam, good balance from a mild hop presence. Beer doesn't hold up as well as it should but its not bad.

This seems mostly like a standard West-US "amber" ale but a bit richer than many, better than some, worse than some. The richness in this case mostly just makes it heavy and hard to drink, though, because the character is basic and one-dimensional.

Red amber, it has a medium off-white ehad steadily shrinking to a thin wispy foam and ring, leaving a little weak lace.

The aroma is very malty but also extremely flowery-perfumy. It's caramelly with grapefruit zest, orange flower, orange zest, and dust. It has a typical West Coast amber ale quality but stronger and more perfumy, in fact too perfumy, and dusty, so that in the end I find it unpleasant and off-putting for me.

The taste is similar in overall character, but much better than the aroma. It's mostly malty and sweet with very, very light hop bite. It tastes rather caramelly with mostly sweet orange and candied grapferuit zest. The body is rather thick and full for the style. Overall, its character is quite simple and rather one-dimensional, a bit bland and, sweet and perfumy. The flavour/character it has is strong and holds up well and along with the rich feel this somewhat makes up for the simple, one-dimensional character with strength of flavour, yet this only goes so far.

In the end, it's simple, uninteresting, yet rich and heavy, not a very good combination. It's too simple and one-dimensional to be a great heavier-duty beer, yet it's too strong in alcohol and in its rich, heavy body to be a great session beer. It gets tiresome very quickly, so I don't want to drink much of it, yet it doesn't give me enough satisfaction for drinking so little. It gets really boring really fast.

Pours a dark red-brown with little hop aroma. Initial sip picks up a candy sweetness-and the finish is smooth, but lacks any hop character in the taste. Too sweet and could use some hops to balance the malty sweetness. Low carbonation level lends itself to a smooth finish. Because I find it too sweet I can't rate the drinkability very high. This beer is not unlike their red ale.

Taste - Just a bit too muxh on the sweet side, nothing behond that which really impresxed me.
After tast - There is a malty sweetness that lingers which k was not a fan of

Overall I am not giviging up on Napa Smith, but, don't think I will be ordering another one of these

A- clear rusty amber, fizzy beige head. foam settles fast to a thin film.

S- sweet caramel malty nose, spicy and floral with hints of cinnamon and pepper.

T- toasty and sweet, nutty, with only a small amount of earthy hop flavor. decent, and fresh, but boring.

MF- smooth and slightly drying. delicate carbonation.

D- there are distinct similarities between all of the napa smith beers i've tried. it's not bad by any means, but a bit of diversity would help immensely.

Pours a clear ruby amber with a off-white head and some lacing. Aroma and Taste of Caramel malt, yeast, with some fruity notes and moderate hops. Palate is a light to medium body with mild carbonation. Finish is caramel malt, yeast with some light hops and a bit of lingering nutty flavor. Aroma and taste seem a bit light and quickly dissipates. Overall an ok drinkable brew nothing outstanding about this ale.

Pours a clear dark copper with a foamy khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Foamy swaths of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, and some caramel aromas. Taste is much the same with a sweet malt flavor on the finish. There is a mild hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty average beer aroma and flavor wise but it's pretty drinkable for what it is.

Poured from a bomber into a pint glass, the beer is a slightly hazed rose-copper coloring with a chunky, off-white head that settles into a slight film across the top of the brew. Caramelly malt smells, with sour notes overriding. Smells watery, if that is possible. The beer has a roasted caramel malt flavor initially, with a slight hopping sneaking in the back door. Also some smokey flavor characteristics. The beer is slightly oily and slick, and it brings about a quick finish with a minimal sour malt aftertaste. Easy drinker, but not overly impressive by any means. I've had better Ambers, by far.

Eh. Too malty with a sticky sweet tone. I almost want to say this crosses into brown ale territory ever so slightly. Bottom line is that it just doesn't work. It's drinkable, yes. But there is no style or grace...or interesting character. Could be more rounded.

Pours a hazy light amber color with a frothy white head that leaves a solid amount of lacing.

Smells of forward caramel malts.

Tastes of mostly malt with a slight hop finish. Malt has bread notes along with some sweet caramel. This fades into an herbal hop character that adds a minor amount of bitterness. Finishes dry. Seems a bit bland overall, could use some boosting from any of the components.

Mouthfeel is medium with a smooth amount of carbonation.

A: Nice and very well done brown - reddish color that shows a medium body, the beer is cloudy not transparent at all and the head is not to big it is small and dissipates somehow fast leaving almost non traces and non layer on top, carbonation is poor but the color of the head is a light brown with small bubbles.

S: Balanced aroma between barley and hops as an amber some little toasted malts can be sensed.

T: Taste is not great it sadly it is the poorest quality of the beer, even at the beginning it is balanced but then some rare flavor can be felt a little acid.

M: The feeling is not bad, it has a good ending even when start it is a little acid and with some bittersweetness.

12oz bottle courtesy of jh1982 poured into a tulip.

Pours a dark clear amber with a healthy off-white head that recedes to a small cap and leaves light traces of lacing.

The aroma is very light with some sweet malts dominating with hints of light fruit and some earthy hops, though the hops are really faint.

The taste is a mixture of biscuity malts, caramel sweetness and a faint dry hoppiness in the finish.

The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with soft carbonation and very sweet and sticky overall.

This is a fairly drinkable amber that doesn't have much complexity as its dominated by the sweetness of the caramel malts. One dimensional but OK.
