Yeast Hoist Special Edition bottle, woot!

This beer pours out and makes some foam! It's one of those beers where you pour and walk away then com back and check on it or at least thats the way it was for me. The head was light with a lot of little micro bubbles. The color of the beer is nice and golden. Coincidence to the name? I would say so. This beer smells malty and a little bitter. The flavor is nice and light. I don't really get any fruitiness. It kind of tastes like a mellow grolsch, which for me is just fine. The overall mouthfeel is light and the carbonation seemed to be on the medium side. I was expecting to have a little more bite from the wicked head that formed but I guess the head took it all.

I like this beer. Very easy to drink. I wish I had some pizza seems like it would pare nicely.

Served into tulip pint glass.

Appearance
Muted gold color with a beautiful, abundant and lasting head of small and medium-sized bubbles. It leaves almost no lacing in the glass.

Smell
It has that smell characteristic of Belgian whites, probably due to the yeast, sweet and somewhat fruity with faint alcohol aroma.

Taste
Fruity taste with a little bit of citrus and pineapple; also a little bit biscuity. The aftertaste is somewhat bitter with a medium high alcohol taste.

Mouthfeel
Medium light body with plenty of carbonation.

Overall
A nice example of Belgian white with a slightly higher alcohol than I remember for this type. Characteristic color and flavor profile.

Pours with a beautiful stack of foam in the wide St. Bernardus globe. Pure white suds everywhere. Don't try this in a narrow lager glass, as I did at first. Kind of a musty smell. Totally fizzy on the tongue, and it never lets up. More annoyingly prickly than the hoped-for creamy.

Starts out rather sweet, though the yeasty bitterness does a good job of drying it out. The fruit flavors are interesting with a pineapple note and sweet kumquat peel. Something like lemon bars, only dry. Faint hint of crackery malt.

Authentic or not, I don't think this such a great example of the style. This might display it's rustic charms better in a little joint in Namur, say, with the rain drizzling outside. From the swing-top jug bought at BevMo.

Poured from the 16 oz stoneware bottle into a teku.

A: Golden (imagine that). Pours a 2 finger, frothy, white head. Settles very slowly leaving some dry sticky residue as it does. Never fully dissipates. A lot of persistent spider web lacing.

S: Yeast and honey, clove and coriander. A little lemon citrus, too.

T: Very yeasty, bitter pecan shell, with some indistinct hints of sweet and savory spice.

M: Light and crisp. High alcohol is unapparent. Bitter, dry finish.

D: Sip and enjoy.

Atmosphere is really nice. Large, frothy head, and pervasive lacing. Yeasty nose with some sweet and savory spice notes and a bit of lemon. Light and yeasty with a deceptive high alcohol content, accentuated with a little sweet and spice. A little bitter and dry. Overall, this is a really good quaff.

Best before 2/27/17.

Pours a murky orange with a foamy off-white head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small swaths of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, honey, Belgian yeast, and alcohol aromas. Taste is much the same with honey and fruit flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with some solid flavors but I think the smell is slightly better on this one.
