1L growler served at 50F into a HF wine glass. Thanks to bvdubn for this growler.

Notes from April 24th serving.

A: Deep black body with a thin, bubbly 1" mocha head that dissipates quickly and can barely be revived with swirling. No lacing left on the glass. Medium sized carbonation bubbles.

S: Dark, dark chocolate and roasted malt. Notes of brewer's licorice, caramel, cinnamon and molasses. No hop presence, nor is there any hint of roasted chile.

T: Rich bittersweet chocolate up front with mild chile heat on the back side. Chile heat builds with progressive sipping. Spicy anise and cinnamon balance with vanilla and dark malt. Alcohol is muted but present.

M: Full bodied to heavy, with mild slickness. The beer finishes sweet with lingering chile heat. Appropriate carbonation for the style prevents palate overload. Still, glad to be sharing this.

O: A well done experiment. The base stout is great and the addition of chile and chocolate only enhances that.

Served on-tap at Al's of Hampden.

A - Pours jet black with a decent one finger tall tan head, quickly dissipating to a small ring around the outer edge, leaving no lace at all on the glass. Slowly went dead over the course of the glass.

S - Smells of cocoa, vanilla, chili peppers, cinnamon, dark roasted malt and some mild booze. A bit one dimensional initially but it really opened up once it warmed up.

T - Starts off with a big dose of chocolate sweetness quickly being joined by the mild heat from the chili peppers. Hints of vanilla and cinnamon join up with the dark roasted malt to round things out. Finish is pretty sweet with some mild booze burn, lingering long after the finish.

M - Heavy body with moderate carbonation. Big, roasty feel with some sweet heat backing. The booze slowly grows over the course of the glass.

O - An enjoyable chili stout. A bit sweet compared to some of the others I have had but all of the intended flavors are present. Worth a try if you like these kind of stouts.

Growler poured into a tulip. The brew pours an oily black with quick dying head that only holds with a couple bubbles around the perimeter. It pretty much looks still and hardly a couple bubbles emit when swirled. It leaves a rich coating of alcohol legs on the glass.

The smell is rich like a sort of chocolate liqueur. Some sort of belgian candy sugar also comes out in the nose, light fruity alcohol esters and a deep sort of anise character. As it is smelled more, it has a slightly vinous touch across the back.

The taste is sticky sweet with a flavoring of chocolate blended with anise. There is a very mild burn of pepper and alcohol in the adtertaste. Not much pepper flavor really, just a nice spice that mixes with the alcohol. A bit of fruited quality, molassess and earth are noted as it warms.

This is a full bodied brew with a very light amount of carbonation. It is sticky sweet but with enough pepper to know its there. It is a little too sweet to be drink more than a glass but it does a good job hiding the alcohol. Nice new offering, looking forward to trying the other variations on this.

Poured from a 1 liter Pizza Boy growler. It was filled 2/9/14 and consumed 2/15/14.

I felt the need to review this one because it's awesome and the rating should be higher.

Appearance: It pours very black - oil like viscosity. Small tan head. A little bit of lacing.

Smell: This was probably the least impressive characteristic of this beer. Mild pepper, slight cocoa, alcohol/stout.

Taste: This has everything I want from a Mexican style stout. Rich, slightly sweet cocoa roast. A mild alcohol burn which is probably somewhat amplified by the peppers, but it's done perfectly for a 13% beer. The pepper heat is nice but not overwhelming. I am so happy that no coffee was added to this because it doesn't have the stale flavor that Bomb! has.

Mouthfeel: Thick, velvet, awesome.

Overall: A fantastic stout that I am very happy to have tried. I definitely want to try more Pizza Boy offerings, but this was a great first impression.

One of the things I love about Pizza Boy is that everything is on tap only. Picked up a growler of this for only $11 to share and was not disappointed. Aroma was instant of vanilla and bourbon booziness. Caramel and booze on the tongue followed by vanilla and heat in the back of the throat. As this warms the characters really blend together more and the heat comes more towards the front and is even noticeable on the nose. This is excellent.
