Deep ruby color with a pinkish head that fades quick, some spotty lace but it doesn't cling. Grains, some funk, sharp citrus, vinegar and berry notes. I get blueberry, raspberry and blackberry in the fruit component of the aroma but it's a bit muddled. Tart, citrus, raspberry, blackberry and hints of blueberry from the aroma. Slight funk and light grain backbone is barely perceptible. Nice sharp carbonation and a very dry and tart finish. I thought this one was very good but I'd like to taste the berry component more in the flavor profile.

32oz crowler courtesy of LehighAce06 as part of NBS BIF #2, and cruelly neglected until now. I’ve been trying to get some friends to commit to a bottle share, so I set this aside as something that would be unique to all present. This endeavor turned out to be akin to herding feral cats, and I fear this has now sat too long.
Poured a clear, pinkish color initially, then darkening in my St. Bernardus glass to a slightly chill-hazed ruby color, not unlike one of my favorite wines (Barnard Griffin Rose of Sangiovese, for those keeping score). Unlike the wine, there was a decent sized bubbly beige colored head that dropped to a skiff over the course of a few minutes. Spotty and streaky lace.
There’s a thin, vinuous funk rising to the nose, along with a fruit aroma reminiscent of cherries.
Drinks a bit acidic and tart, though there’s some sweetness too. The balance seems good to me – more sweetness would make it cloying. Definitely some wine characteristics to this. Fortunately I like wine as well as beer.
The body is somewhere between thin and medium, with a coating mouthfeel not unlike fruit juice. Things could have been a little livelier in this department. Perhaps that’s part of having sat in a crowler for several months, but other reviews seem to have encountered this as well, so perhaps not.
I was afraid this had spent too much time in the crowler, but the other reviews don’t seem too far off from what I experienced. I’m not an absolute noob when it comes to wild ales, but I wouldn’t claim to be a connoisseur, either. To me, this seems a pretty good tasting wild ale that’s a little easy on the taste buds and fairly approachable, so it’d probably be a good one for people still finding their way with this style. If this was brewed locally, I’d probably have it regularly.

Drank from a 32 oz crowler, filled just over a week ago.
Smurphs Blood pours a bright reddish purple color. I'm picking up lemon and tart berries on the nose. The taste is more of the same. It's very acidic and is quite tart. Under-ripe berries and lemon dominates the palate. I think I would have preferred some sweetness from the berries, as this is coming across as rather bitter. The carbonation is also a little lower than I'd prefer, but it certainly isn't flat.
Pretty good wild ale, but I've had better from Pizza Boy.

Not much of an aroma on this one, but what is there is mostly just a faint berry juice & some real faint grain. Like a lot of Al's sours this one isn't ridiculously lactic or puckering. It has a nice even tart that is present on the tongue immediately but doesn't linger or blast the pallete. I pick-up mostly raspberries in the flavor profile, but it is thin & organic, not a syrupy artifical flavor. Overall this is a great refreshing session sour. Clean, simple and elegant.
