Tasted a hint of spice I couldn't pin point but I didn't like it

Pour is jet black with a small amount tan head. Nose is like, mostly cooked cocoa, a hint nutty, and a touch of orange citrus. Flavor is also softer, rich roasted malts and dark chocolate. A touch sweet in the back, like bitterness through the finish. Very faint citrus and note of chipotle pepper (without the hear) in the back. Fuller body, very soft feel, gentle carb. Easy sipper.

Lots of citrus in the nose. Orange flavor cuts through the malts and makes this pretty drinkable for 8+ percent. Pretty interesting take on an imp. stout.

Slight citrusy note on the nose. The flavor is dominated by a very astringent orangey blast. The roast profile is also less than stellar and does not counter the astringent orange.
I have come to the point where I expect almost everything from Al's to be stupendous. Sadly, this offering really misses the mark.

Served on-tap at Al's of Hampden. Pours pitch black with a half finger tall tan head, quickly dissipating down to a light ring, leaving small trails of lace on the sides of the glass.
Smells of rich cocoa powder, dash of orange zest, plenty of dark roasts grains, some faint earthy smokiness and a slight hint of heat. Taste is along the same lines of the nose with the cocoa dominating followed behind by the dark roast, mild orange rind and the light smokiness. I get more of the orange pith on the end of each sip once the roast and cocoa die down. Sweet, slightly chalky feel with a bit of dryness at the end of each sip.
Overall a nice enough fruited stout. Could have used a bit less cocoa flavor to allow the fruit to come through more but that's about it really.
