Got a growler of this at Al’s since my girlfriend loves sour beers and we recently enjoyed a bottle of Le Bleu so needless to say I was excited. Pours a nice pink hue with an active bright white head. Lacing is present and carbonation lasted till the last drop. Lots of tart lactic notes in the nose, very little blueberry present. The first sip jolted my tongue awake. Lots of carbonation bite and a nice tart acidic quality. The beer lacked any brett funk that I expect from a sour beer. After seeing it classified as a Berliner maybe that’s why it wasn’t present, if lacto was used for the souring. The beer did not have a huge blueberry presence but it was there just subtle. Overall the beer was fantastic an easy drinking beer and I was sad when the growler was gone. Can’t wait to try and clone it next summer when blueberries are on!

Thanks to robieobie1 for this one - poured from a growler into a glass. Pours a nice shade of copper with a light murkiness to it. A foamy white head froms and fades before it really has time to be admired. Aroma is pretty light and hits the nose with a sharp bite from the carbonation, which was surprisingly heavy for two weeks in a growler. Not bad. A touch fruity, sweet, and very mildly tart with some apples, grapes, and cherries - some "standar" wild ale aromas, although the different fruits aren't that easily discernable here, as the aroma is pretty quiet overall.

The taste is full of more of the same - apple skins, white grapes skins, sweet cherries - all backed up with that old familiar carbonation bite and snap on the tongue. The high carbonation lets the beer kind of float away and evaporate inside of your mouth. The carbonation aids the tartness a bit, although this beer still isn't sour enough to be puckering or lip-smacking. It's got some good flavors, but doesn't necessarily stand out too much. A very, very light funk hits in the aftertaste, a bit after the tartness fades. Pretty dry finish, thin bodied.

Not a bad wild ale, and pretty good considering the low ABV. However, it doesn't really do anything to stand out above the rest. I would've liked to see a little more flavor, tartness, or funk. This could've passed for a Berliner-Weisse.

Big thanks goes out to stakem for sending me this one in a past trade! Shared this one during a past Random Sunday Tasting! Served from growler into a Mikkeller taster flute. Poured a vibrant red with a half finger white head that subsided to a minimal amount quickly. Maintained excellent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, tart, sour, fruit, blueberry, blackberry, funk, and lemon zest. The flavor was of sweet malt, sour, tart, funk, blueberry, blackberry, funk, and subtle garlic. It had a light feel on the palate with high carbonation. Overall this was a pretty good brew. Based on the flavor of this one I was really glad that I agreed to a Berliner for Berliner trade to land this one. All of the great flavors that I love in style were present with just a kiss of that little extra. The blueberry added a very nice touch to this one as far as balance and complexity and was definitely evident throughout. Rally glad I got the chance to try this one as I could EASILY crush a growler of this to the face in a day. Just not a 128 oz one, I won’t make that mistake ever again.

Growler shared by Marco. Thanks!

A: Pours a beautiful orange-ruby body with a small white head.

S: The nose reminds me overwhelmingly of grapefruit. I suppose I can see how some very tart blueberries can have a similar smell. Lightly acidic.

T: The taste gives dry blueberries, a bit citrusy even. Some light malt behind. The finish is quick and bland.

M: Light-bodied with active carbonation.

O: If I didn't know this beer was made with blueberries, I would have guessed it was made with grapefruit. Either way, it's pretty fruity but lacks sufficient acidity to make it more interesting.

Served on tap at Al's of Hampden in Enola, PA

A: Pours a lightly hazy pinkish ruby red in color with some moderate to heavy amounts of visible carbonation and some cranberry juice red highlights. The beer has a thin fizzy light pink head that quickly redues to a thin ring of medium sized bubbles at the edges of the glass. Minimal amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Light aromas of barnyard funk (as well as hay) with some light wheat and stronger aromas of sour berries (I get hints of blackberry, blueberry, and raspberry).

T: Upfront there are some light amounts of wheat and berries (blackberry, blueberry, and raspberry - like a typical mixed berry) with just a touch of sweetness. That is quickly overtaken by light to moderate amounts of sourness and some tartness. The tartness does not linger for too long.

M: Light bodied with light to moderate amounts of carbonation. Some acidic prickliness and a light amount of dryness in the finish.

O: I enjoyed this one but I wish it was a little more sour - I thought the flavors were nice but there might have been a touch too much sweetness in this one.

First had: on tap at Pizza Boy

Poured a cloudy pinkish-purple color with a fizzy, pink-white head that dissipated almost completely; no lacing to speak of. Aroma of tart blueberry, some lactic sourness, but not at all overbearing. Clean blueberry taste, tart with a touch of sweetness in there as well, crisp toasted wheat, citric bitterness, and a light leafiness. Crisp, dry mouthfeel, light-medium body, moderate carbonation. Good job on making a flavorful yet low ABV beer of this style...whatever that style is, still being up for debate.

Served on-tap at Al's of Hampden

A - Pours ruby red with a small, fizzy one finger tall white head, dissipating down to next to nothing, leaving no lace at all down the glass.

S - Smells of light blueberry tartness, bready wheat, light lactic sourness and some light funk. There is definitely a light yogurt aroma that develops toward the end of the glass. Not as much blueberry as I would like from a sour ale, but as a Berliner I think it is pretty nice.

T - Starts off with some nice light blueberry sweetness quickly giving way to a mild tartness mixed with some light funkiness. Not a ton of fruit flavor in this one but it is there. Finish has some more tartness and a bit more blueberry sweetness but thats about it, it doesn't linger on the palate for very long.

M - Medium light body with moderate carbonation. The feel is not very sour, more tart than anything, allowing it be fairly easy to consume. Alcohol is not a problem with this one.

O - This beer is clearly marked as a Sour Ale at the shop and every time I have heard them talk about it they have always called it a sour ale, never a Berliner…that being said, once you try the beer you can see where the Berliner tag is coming from. It really does taste like one. It's a decent beer either way, worth a shot if you get a chance.

Draft at the source served in a snifter. The brew appears a clouded color of blueberry juice...bright ruby purple with a finger of pink stained head. The cap dissolves quick leaving a thin film across the top and spotty lace. A light swirl agitates bubbles from solution to revive the cap.

The aroma is lactic with a lemony essence and mild yogurt-like earthy quality. Some fruited element is evident that doesnt really scream blueberry but it is present enough to be noticeable. A very mild funk evolves as it warms up as the glass is swirled.

The taste is tart with a yogurt inclusion overtop a wheat base that provides its own snap of tartness and indications of a cereal-like sweetness. The aftertaste is mildly earthy with some hints of fruit and citrus. If you concentrate on the advertised blueberry, you can somewhat pick up on that.

This is a light bodied brew with a modest to lively level of prickly carbonation. It is crisp, refreshing and easy drinking. A very nice take on the style and worth seeking out. The brew is advertised as a sour but the brewer describes it as a berliner weisse with blueberry. Regardless, it is a good brew. As a berliner I give it a 4 out of 5, as an american wild/sour it is lacking a bit in depth and maybe more like a 3.5 rating?
