Served on cask at Al's of Hampden
A - Pours hazy golden yellow with a creamy half finger tall white head leaving streaky rings of lace down the glass.
S - Smells of grassy hops, heady pine resin, pale bready malt and some fresh cut fruitiness - mostly grapefruit and other melons. The bright hops of the regular version are still there but the other aromas are much stronger in this version.
T - Starts off with some chewy malt and quite a bit of fresh fruitiness quickly giving way to the pungent grassy hops, sticky pine resin and some light sugary sweetness. Finish is a little sweet with plenty of hop bitterness and a touch of warm booze, lingering on the palate long after the finish.
M - Medium body with moderate carbonation. Creamy feel at the start growing a little watery toward the end of the glass. Still has plenty of hop bitterness with quite a bit of fruit and pine, just like the regular version.
O - The additional dry hopping seems to have helped round this one out. While the regular version is hoppy, it's a bit one dimensional (in a good way). This version really packs a lot of extra flavors into a small package. Doesn't really taste like a kölsch anymore but still pretty good none the less. Give it a try if you can, it's definitely worth it.
