A: Bright, straw yellow with froathy white head. Good lacing.

S: Tart, slightly astringent, yet pleasant sour aroma. Reminiscent of a Berliner, but without all the wheat on the nose. Pineapples and citrus fruits.

T: Good acidity levels, tight and crisp. Round, fruity and tart. Clean finish.

M: Once you get past the initial sour shock to your palate, it comes across as light and dry. No bad tannins on the end.

O: The name says it all. Crack one of these open (at Al's) on a warm summer afternoon, sit in the outdoor area, and you'll see why it's an Afternoon Delight.

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Hazy bright orange. Medium white head. Quickly settles to a thin collar. A few surface wisps.

Smell - Lots of citrus. Lemon, orange, grapefruit. Doesn't smell all that acidic. Some cracker malt.

Taste - Light grain then fruity sourness. Sour orange and a bit of a lychee tartness. Fruity aftertaste. Citrus lingers in the finish.

Mouthfeel - Light and pretty sour. Well carbonated.

Overall - Very enjoyable. Simple and flavorful.

Poured into a Pizza Boy snifter...

A - A standard pour yeilds a finger's worth of pure snow-white colored slighly fizzy whimsical head... Minimal retention gives way to little or no lacing and the slightest of collars... The color is a vibrant slightly glowing pale golden orange... There is a slight haziness... Mostly still with a couple of stray carbonation bubbles seen rising throughout...

S - This beer smells fresh... Some light tartness... Lots of light refreshing tropical fruit goodness... Subtle touches of Belgian yeast and wheat... A faint bit of funkiness on the nose as well...

T - A minimalistic lactic acid tartness to beging... Slightly fruity and tropicalll... A mix of orange and lemon zest... The majority of the hops take on a mix of earthy and lemony character - almost a mix of hallertu and sorachi... Some light Belgian yeast notes... There is also a faint slightly spicy wheat component...

M - Light bodied... Limted yet lively carbonation... Clean... Crisp... Ultra refreshing... Slightly saliva inducing... Each sip is even and consistent...

D - Very easy drinking... Highly enjoyable... Stylistically, this one seems to walk a fine line between American Wild Ale, Saison and Berliner Weissbier, but that's a good thing in my opinion... Further proof that Pizza Boy is beginning to turn out some truly exceptional offerings...

On tap (praise Jebus) at Pizza Boy.

Light golden color, slightly hazy, with a finger or so of bubbly white head that fizzled down to a tiny layer, leaving minimal lace and legs on the glass. Fresh fruit and hops in the nose, lemon and grapefruit, white grapes, grassy hops, with a slight cobwebby funk. In the taste, saliva-inducing tartness, but not quite puckering, lemon and grapefruit, lesser notes of white grapes and apple, brilliantly fresh grassy and citrusy hops, which complement the sour profile nicely, crackery malts and grain husks in the background. Light-medium body, crisp mouthfeel, nice complexity. A very "crushable" sour beer.

This is easily one of my favorite Berliners. I prefer the straight-forward more "classic beer-like" inclusion of hops, as opposed to the typical usage of fruit to flavor beers of the style. Understated and unique.
