Served on-tap on opening day of the new Al's of Hampden.

A - Pours deep brown with a small one finger tall white head leaving light trails of lace down the glass.

S - Smells of caramel, toffee, dark roast, a touch of chocolate and some roasted nuts. Its as plain as I expected it to be however it does have all the ingredients needed to make a solid brown ale.

T - Tastes just like it smells. Lots of toffee, caramel and a medium dark roasted nutty flavor. It is decently balanced but the overall flavors don't really wow me, but I really wasn't expecting to be honestly.

M - Medium body with moderate carbonation. Smooth feel that goes a little too thin toward the end of the glass. If the feel would have held up this would have been much better.

O - A nice American brown. It doesn't wow me in any way but it's still solid. If its your kind of thing you will definitely enjoy it but if your like me and its just a ho hum style then I would just get something else.

Draft offering at Pizza Boy served in a tulip shaped pint glass. The brew appears brown to mahogany in color with ruby clarity seen around the edges. A khaki thin film of head resides across the top and leves spotty lace on the glass.

The aroma includes an interesting hint of something almost like cinnamon overtop a a sweet maltiness that comes across like brown sugar or toffee. More smells reveal some dark fruit aspect like plum or raisons.

The taste includes that hint of burnt sugar like toffee, caramel or molasses with a contrasting herbal hop flabor without much bitterness. There is an overall toasty appeal to this brew before the flavors change to dark raisony sweet fruit character.

This is a medium bodied brew with a modest amount of carbonation. It is a very pleasant offering that fits the bill for a normal or introductory beer that is easily approachable for someone wanting to try something new but clean and complex enough to geek out over. I drank my pint effortlessly and probably quicker than I should have.
