Growler filled about 12 hours ago.

This is a smooth Belgian ipa. I am calling it as such because of the yeast, and how it tastes. Hop tones are there, but they are mature. Some pine and citrus. The yeast is clearly setting the feel for this in that it's smooth and helps to make an already drinkable beer even more drinkable. This is a nice one.

Pour is a pale golden amber, mostly transparent, with a tight white head. Nose is of Saison yeast and some chewy malt. Very grassy hops with notes of fruity citrus. Taste is more sweet, some messy malt and farmhouse notes. A good bit of lemon with a grassy hop and note of citrus. Lots of sugar left over and some dirty malt flavors. Lighter carb with a syrupy body.

32 oz. growler poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Hazy orange. Big white head when I pour it. Settles quickly. Some lacing and a medium collar with surface wisps.

Smell - Lots of saison aromas. Pine hops. Doughy malts give it a sweet aroma. Grassy and lemony, to the point that it's almost chemically.

Taste - Hoppy up front. Grapefruit and pine. Sweet caramel malt. Very fruity. Apple-like esters dominate the finish.

Mouthfeel - Medium body. Medium carbonation. A little sweet.

Overall - Seems much more like a bitter saison than an IPA. The esters dominate the hops.

Served on-tap at Al's of Hampden. I am adding this one as an IPA because the base beer is an IPA and that flavor profile seems to be the most dominate.

A - Pours slightly hazy golden yellow with a small half finger tall white head leaving spotty trails of lace down parts of the glass. Looks similar to the regular Hazleton IPA but a little cloudier.

S - Smells of pungent citric hops, dash of fruity saison yeast, some black pepper spice, some caramel malt sweetness and some fresh sliced tropical fruit. Still quite hoppy but with some fruity / spicy saison backing. Very interesting nose.

T - Starts off with a nice mix of slick citric hop bitterness, black pepper spice and some fruity saison yeast that never really fades away. Some caramel / toffee sweetness and light tropical fruitiness help round things out. Finish is a mix of hopiness, light spice and caramel sweetness, leaving the palate dried out long after the finish.

M - Medium body with moderate carbonation. Slick, hoppy/spicy feel from start to finish. A bit of sweetness creeps in toward the end of each sip, helping to keep the palate from getting fatigued too quickly.

O - A very nice hybrid IPA. It has both sets of flavors you would expect and they are well integrated together. I would say it is a touch more IPA than saison but it doesn't really matter. Definitely worth a shot if you are into these kinds of beers.
