Certainly an underrated Canadian Lager to which drank alone as a beer itself can lead to misconception.
Best sampled during the winter months with lots of comfort food would change any opinion on this label.
Another marijuana coalition lager for sure.

355ml cab poured into pint glass 28/7/15
A clear straw yellow with lots of fine suspended particles and bubbles but not much for head or lace
S grass, sweet grain, a little honey, lager yeast, some wet paper and cracker, nothing exciting but nothing offensive either
T has some metal and chemical thing going on I didn't find on the nose, just tastes like cheap macro
M watery and well carbonated, aftertaste leaves something to be desired but it could be much worse
O not as bad as I expected considering how cheap this stuff is but still nothing really worth buying unless you need a cheap party beer
pretty basic but at a little more than a buck a can you kinda know what your getting before you try it, could be worse though

Nothing about this beer is exceptionally noteworthy, or special but...
Overall this is actually very good and refreshing beer, for the style and price point. It's clean, clear, fresh and crisp. No adjunct funkiness that we usually find in similarly priced lagers. I don't detect any nasty notes that other reviewers have mentioned. Nice balance, mild hop bitterness. It's clear bright yellow with (if poured correctly...) nice fluffy white head which does dissipate down to a few whisps with a bit of lacing. A simple but well-executed lager. Highly drinkable.

This is a very cheap Canadian beer by Canadian standards and it tastes like it. Head disappeared almost instantly and on first sniff not very appealing. Metallic tasting and finish is very short. Will not be trying again. There are much better beers even within this price range.

Hell's Gate Lager is a "cheap" local brand, yes (at $7.99/six), but one that I surprisingly enjoy. There's nothing to special about it, but it is a clean, crisp lager - and if that's all you want, 66% of the price of a major Canadian domestic, it fits the bill nicely.

355ml can poured in a pint glass. Thanks to my buddy Scott for the beer!
Pale, straw yellow and clear. Bright white head is 1/2 inch on the pour and quickly reduces to a thin cap. The odd splotch of lacing here and there.
Aroma of grains, adjuncts, cooked veggies and formaldehyde.
Typical dollar beer macro lager in flavour. Astringent right from the start. No discernable grains or malt flavour. Forget about hops. The most offensive tasting beer I've had in a long time. Drain pour.
Harsh, chemical mouthfeel. I feel like the inside of my mouth has been inflicted with a chemical burn.
Looks like a decent macro lager, but that's where the complements end. Drinkability? It's not drinkable. Avoid.

Note: Please keep in mind that for this review I am being serious. This was my honest impression of the beer while sampling it.
Poured into a 650mL mug:
Appearance: Looks like a beautiful beer. Wait; what I mean to say was "Looks like a beautiful beer should look coming out of you."
Smell: Wet dog, skunk cabbage, gym bag.
Taste: Cooked vegetables, metal, brussels sprout.
Mouthfeel: Uneven carbonation. Most of it was over-carbonated.
Drinkability: Most macro beers taste the same to me. They taste as they are; no character, lots of hype and no substance. This is not a macro beer but it seems like it should be. I had never seen an ad for it before buying it. The guy in the beer store said it was "Amazing". He was right. It's amazing just how awful this beer is. This beer is offensive in every sense of the word.
