A: Pours a bright, clear golden-orange color. The medium-sized, foamy-frothy head has a faint orange hue. Retention is decent, leaving a few splotches of patchy lacing on the glass.

S: Malty notes, with faintly sweet caramel in the nose. Some herbal and modestly spicy hop notes are present. Fruity undertones are also fairly prominent, with notes of pears and apples.

T: Medium-firm malt character. Lightly doughy and sweet, with medium caramel flavor. Hop bitterness is measured and packs a solid punch. Hop flavors feature mild herbal and spicy notes. Some soft fruity notes (apple and pear, as in the nose) add some depth.

M: Medium bodied. Carbonation is a bit too aggressive for my taste - it comes off a bit rough. There's also a gradually growing stickiness before the finish dries out.

D: This is a decent marzen, but it's a little rough around the edges, especially in terms of mouthfeel. It's enjoyable, but there are better versions out there, both domestically and from Germany.

This time from the bottle...pours with a small white head and is an orange-brown color. Smells kind of fruity and spicy. There's not a strong odor. There aren't too many flavors and nothing is really distinctive, maybe some peachy spice and alcohol. This is heavily carbonated and rather thin in the mouth. This isn't a bad brew it's just not very exciting.

I wouldn't want to drink many of these.

Appearance: Pours a very nice caramel amber crystal clear hue with a big caramel light tan head leaves nice patches of lacing nice looking brew. Aroma: Nose contains roasted caramel malts with nutty edges and herbal hops a very nice combonation of everything here. What's great is that it has a subtle sweetness, but it's not overly syrupy or anything like some American festbiers. Taste: Smooth even flavor with dry roasted nut drizzled with caramel sweetness and herbal hop accents. This is a great all around Märzen, drinking this bottle makes me wish that I would have had the opportunity to try all of their draft selections when I visited. Mouthfeel: Medium to light in body slighty sticky texture but flows very smoothly going down this achieved by moderate carbonation and a great flavor. Drinkability: Solid offering from a small unique production brewery definitely glad I gave these guys a shot. This brew only ran me around three bucks or so.

Nothing much to look at, mildly smokey greyish dark, not even much in the way of head or carbonation, neutral to aroma. But depth of taste, dark and full of complex malt with caramel and just a hint of smoke. Some yeastiness well integrated. Well done marzen. Medium mouthfeel.

Slightly hazy. Deep amber color with orange highlights and a fluffy off-white head that diminishes quickly but holds fairly well. The aroma is of sweetish malt and a touch of fruitiness - not much hop. The body is medium with a moderate carbonation, leading to a full mouthfeel. The flavor presents sweetish caramel malt with an OK balance. The finish is a little bit sticky, almost candyish, but gives a burst of hops on the way out.

22 ounce bottle. This just showed up at a local beer store recently for $1.99 a bomber, and I have no idea how old this bottle is. However, the label on the bottle is different than the one shown on BA for this brew, and the label lettering/design does look more like what Buckeye has been using on some of their other bottles lately so hopefully it's a new batch of this beer. Served in a mug, the beer pours a slightly hazy orange/amber color with about an inch off-white head. Head retention and lacing are both good. Aroma is nice, it smells like bready and caramel malt, grassy and herbal hops, and a bit of apple. Taste is similar to the aroma, with it tasting like bready and caramel malt, along with some grassy and herbal hops. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's a bit slick and sticky with good carbonation. I think this is a solid overall brew, and for just $1.99 I'd buy this again in the future. Definitely worth a try at that price.

22 oz. bottle. Pours a slightly hazy copper color. Thick white foamy head lasts for a while. Bready, caramel, nutty aroma. Good bready malt flavor, caramel, and toffee flavors. Earthy and floral hops in the finish contribute a little to balance out. Enjoyable, but the malt needs a bit more depth. Also, this just didn't seem as clean as other examples that I enjoy. There is some body to this, and it was pretty easy to drink. Not bad.

Thanks to stfun37 (I think) for this one as an extra!

Well I kinda dig on Marzens... Sam Adams Oktoberfest was one of my first craft loves and I've always maintained a soft spot for them.

This is a relatively non-descript and mediocre interpretation that seems to lean more towards an altbier (and a paler interpretation).

Appearance is a pale golden and faintly orange, barely an edge of amber about it. Finger of head with quick dissipation. No real lacing or retention to speak of, but it doesn't look flat or unappetizing.

Aroma is a pitch full of pilsner malt, softly bready and biscuity sweet. A nod towards melanoidin toffee/caramel sweetness but not really there in strength.

That's backed up on the palate where this is a clean, well-balanced beer that's lacking in some of the malty complexities and roundness that I'd like. Seems like a German Pale Ale fermented coolly.

Body and carbonation are well presented, making this an easy and enjoyable sipper. I'd gladly toss more of these back, but there are other directions I'd go if I was out shopping.

Thanks to hopdog...
Appears a hazy orange with a small white head that retains for a moment. Spotty lacing is left around the glass.
Smell is of caramel, toffee, sweet fruit, and a touch of bananas.
The taste is the same as the aromas.
Mouthfeel is sugary with medium body and a caramel sweetness lingering.

Slightly cloudy golden color , small head, no lacing.

This beer has a slightly sweet aroma , very faint.

This beer has some Malty caramel flavors. Hops are fairly muted and style appropriate .

Mouthfeel is light . Perhaps undercarbonated.

Overall an easy drinking beer I wouldn't mind drinking more of.

Thanks alcfron, this is a pretty enjoyable Oktoberfest. Nice and malty w/ good amber color. This year, I actually tried several Oktoberfests and this Martian was one of the better ones. I was actually surprised how many of them lacked maltiness. Mind you, this is Not a world class beer by any stretch, but it's pretty nice

Large head tops an oily auburn pour. Slight residue coats the side of the glass.
Smell molassas, caramel, and a slight pine(?)
Taste: Damn good, malt sweetness, hints of toffee and butter. Light flavor of hops at the end, very small. Great Marzen flavor.
As far as the rest goes I really wish I would've bought at least two so I could enjoy the second. The first went down too fast to even notice! :)

22 oz bottle. Pours a light amber, very thin off white head that is gone quick. Light aroma, a little caramel and stale fruit. Flavor is bland, starts sweet, ends sour, nothing really stands out flavor wise. No spices noted. Balanced aftertaste is the best part of this beer. Thin body, light carbonation. Drinkable, but not by me again.

Semi hazy bronzish color with a medium, quickly diminishing, foam tan head. Not much lacing. Smells really earthy right away. Slight fruitlike acidity but more toffee follows the earthy tones. Taste is super malty with a yeasty base providing firm support. Base is really nutty and earthy and these flavors seem to control the beer. Not too much sweetness really and not much hoppyness either. A dry toffee flavor reaches the top. Slight acidic twang towards the back. Finish is a bit too sweet with some residual brown sugars clinging to my mouth. An ok marzen, drinkable for sure but not one of my favorites.

22oz bottle acquired in trade with OhioDad (thanks for this one!).

Poured a darker and lightly hazy amber color with a large sized white head. Aromas of toffee and light bread. Tastes of bread, caramel, and lightly fruity.

Faomy, dirty cream colored head left a bit of lace. Very mild aroma, pale malts and zesty floral hops. Dark copper colored beer with some active carbonation. Understated caramel malt flavor is mildly sweet and cut by a bit of tea hops midway through. Just a pinch of bitterness at the end, finish is still pretty clean. Soft, rounded mouthfeel with a medium to light body. Overall and understated and enjoyable beer.

22oz bottle poured into a pint glass
A: Transparent light orange with a one-finger head that quickly settles
S: Malts, sweet bread, some caramel and a hint of fruit
T: Largely matches the nose, minus the fruit. Lots of malty/bready notes, hints of caramel and yeast
M: Medium-bodied, smooth
O: Solid, just not huge complexity

Pours deep gold with auburn accent. Copius white head, bubbles a little big, well laced. Malty, sweet, and bready. Balancing bitterness and a slight metallic tinge. Clean, light body and moderate carbonation.

A Good beer, close to very good, but that metallic finish knocks it down a peg.
Worthy of another try.

Pours a very nice looking lager. A dark golden color with a carbonated, refreshing looking drink. The carbonation creates a medium sized head that sits on the beer throughout the drink.
Nice smells of strong malts dominated by a bit of toffee. Also, a nice biscuit base smell.
Taste has a lot more going for it than the usual lager. Strong tastes of malts and wheat and a nice hop taste as well. A great balance of each, which is what people want in a lager.
Mouthfeel is good as well. A good amount of crisp refreshment, but doesn't thin out like what you get from the usual lager.
Drinkability is very good on this beer. One of the better lagers I have ever had. Many more tastes than other of this style, but stays balanced and refreshing throughout. If you have a friend who loves lagers and thinks craft beers are beyond him, make him try one of these. This is a definite converter.

This one pours a hazy amber color with a medium head that falls slowly and leaves some lacing on the glass. The aroma is mostly comprised of caramel malt sweetness and a hint of graininess. Not much hops here. The flavor has plenty of sweet caramel malts along with a nuttiness that I wasn't expecting. Some floral hops show themselves to balance things out. The body is somewhere on the medium end of light. Easy to drink and quite enjoyable. This one offers up something that most others of the style don't.

Served in the 22 oz. bomber, into a pint glass. The color is amber, with a foamy white head. The smell is a caramel malt. The taste is somewhat sweet, with some bitterness in the flavor, and a lack of balance. Mouthfeel is average. As for drinkability, not too many more of these.

Well, after Penn's marzen, this just really doesn't measure up. Not that it's horrible, it's just not in the same ballpark. Still, maybe I'd give this one a try if I ever make it up to Buckeye's brewpub.

poured from the 22oz. bottle into a standard pint glass. Thanks to Jay for sharing this beer with me.

Appearance- 3+ finger head with a golden brown colour. Large bubbles in the head dissapate into a fine froth over the top.

Smell- Bready, yeasty with a touch of an alcoholic phenolic tinge towards to the end. Spicy hop notes as well.

Taste- Floury bread with a big spicy hop kick. This beer may be about to turn, but it is still good right now. Still thick but creamy enough for slugging back.

Mouthfeel- Spicy and smooth. No mouth stickiness. Pretty good mouthfeel overall.

Drinkability- Very. I could drink many of these with some sandwiches with no cheese, or cheese itself. An easy drinker.
