bottle from the brewpub. Pours black and thickish. Substantial coffee, can pass as an IS. Good drinkability, though the coffee finishes somewhat bitter astringent, some burnt parts. The bomber was finishable, though with food. Above average mouthfeel. Coffee roasted aroma.

Appearance: Pours a fudge brown color with a beige cap that builds impressively and leaves shards of lace behind

Smell: Dark chocolate, licorice and a bit of char

Taste: The char detected on the aroma is an underlying theme here as it complements the flavors from start to finish; at the outset, dark chocolate and dark fruit merge into hop flavors by mid-palate, with licorice and molasses adding sweetness and lingering into the aftertaste

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with moderate carbonation

Overall: A very nice example of the style, with a few twists (the fruit/hop elements) and a very rich mouthfeel

Not a style too often visited for most breweries. This is a good example of the style. At first the carbonation, I felt, was interfering with the flavor. But after I let it sit out for a while, it evened out. Consistent character with a nice deep tone. Pretty easy drinking beer. Glad I had a chance to try it.

22 oz bomber courtesy of kirok, thanks for this rarity, Mark! Pours impenetrable black with a nice cap of brown head. Nice retention and lace. A very good looking beer...something I have noticed Buckeye has down pat.

Nose is raspberries, pomegranate juice and dark chocolate. Little bit of roast and the hops are there, but kinda lurk a little bit in the shadows. There is a very distinctive smell I get in all the Buckeye brews I have had (about 5 or 6) and I cant quite identify what it is...it bugs the crap out of me. Its like a dusty, carbonated yeast presence.

Lots of chocolate here with some roast in tow. Fruitiness is still there, albeit more muted than the nose would indicate. The carbonation is fairly high and there is the same dusty CO2 flavor I noticed before...I wish their beers did not exhibit this trait. Maybe it is the house yeast? Im guessing so...bummer though as all the other flavors are quite nice. I like the smooth, rich malt flavors and there is a decent hop bittering on the finish.

22 oz. Sam Adams PP. Black pour, some brown around the edge. Frothy, rocky long lasting light tan head. It looks excellent.

Aroma a nice amount of raost, licorice and some resiny hops.

Taste, rich malty roast. Caramel, chocolate, coffee all there. Hops are less present but there with the roast coffee, dark chocolate finish. Still more hops than normal for the style, but it works very well.

The appearance would lead one to believe it is creamy, and it is. Slick heavy side of mid body. Goes down real smooth.

This was really good. The best Export Stout I've had since Great Divide Fade to Black 1, though it reminded me more of 3 Floyds Black Sun Stout.

Pours a dark cola black color with a two finger khaki colored head which recedes to edging. There is strands and gobs of lace left up and down the glass. The aroma is big and bold. There is a char smell up front which gives way to dark chocolate and a hint of dark fruits. The taste starts with the char and dark chocolate. This gives way to a hint of dark fruits and then finishes with a subtle hop bite at the very end. The mouthfeel is moderate carbonation. Overall this is a very good beer, the look and aroma are amazing, the taste isnt as good but still very good.

Appearance
Rich black with a sticky tan head. Nice lacing as the retention is high and the head rose to about 2.5 fingers high.

Aroma
Quite unique. It has an intense fruitiness that nears tart. Lots of rich berries, licorice, molasses and roasted malts. Hops come together and provide a tropical fruit aroma that mixes well with everything. This is an interesting smelling beer. I like it.

Taste
Very similar to the aroma. This beer is really fruity, with a blend of over ripe dark fruits and under ripe berries. A little tartness flashes over the palate just before licorice and roasted malts set in. This does not taste infected, it's just intensely fruity, and quite well done.

Mouthfeel
Pretty full bodied, but smoothness is hurt a little by a heavy handed carbonation.

Overall
I really like this style and I'd like to see more. This one is a good example.

Had on tap in a snifter at the Beer Engine. Pours a dark, dark brown, almost black, with a tuck tan head that oh so slowly reduces. I will note that Buckeye Brewing classifies this as a "Tropical Stout", which I've never heard of.

Chocolate, molasses, and biscuity malt, this sure smells like dessert.

Taste is malty, bready, and full of dark, dry chocolate. Slightly sweet in the middle, with brown sugar, molasses and honey, this finishes with a decent amount of bitter dark chocolate and hops.

Full-bodied, creamy and ending bitter, this has robust mouthfeel.

I've had a prior iteration of Zatek, but if memory serves me right, it was not as full as this. If you've had the Zatek before, you should definitely give this one a try.

Pours an awesome looking stout. A dark black color with no hues when held to the light. No carbonation creates a medium sized tan head that sits on top of the beer throughout the entire dink.
Aroma is like any great stout. Notes of coffee, chocolate, and toffee. Great stout smells.
Taste is very nice. Great roasted and coffee tastes. Balanced by a slightly hoppy tinge.
Mouthfeel is very nice. Very smooth and silky.
Drinkability is real nice on this stout. A very strong stout but some nice balanced tastes. Try it!

A - A little red around the edges with a creamy, medium height creamt head.

S - A bit bitter. Dark chocolate, dried fruit. Actually multiple fruit. Maybe prune, raisin and raspberry.

T - A bitter hit in the back of the throat. Melted dark chocolate and fruit in the flavor.

M - Thick with decent coating. Only a mild tingle on sides of tongue.

O - Flavor isn't that bad, but the bitterness would prevent this from being picked over many other brews.

A: Nearly black & nearly opaque and a hint deep red at the edges when held to light. Large tan head that dimples a bit as it recedes with okay speed & leaves some passable splotches of lace.

S: Toasty biscuit with lots of bread crust maltiness blending into scorched toffee sweetness with a hint of molasses. A firm dose of raisins & prunes dark fruit gets right in there too. There is just an edge of something brighter – berry? tropical/citrus from hops? Undergirding all of this is a fair bit of roast & a good touch of chocolate. A ghost hint of spicy alcohol emerges as it warms. Yet it oddly gets less rich & more faint too.

T: Palate is significantly more roasty & bitter than the nose. Strongly roasted grain with notes of long ago brewed coffee that has been sitting and bitter-sweet cocoa. Roast is fairly sharp and a acrid up front. As it mellows some char emerges. Hops were not detectable in the nose, but they are here. Some of the firm bitterness may be from the roast, but the hopping is fairly firm in this one. Character is herbal, minty, earthy, and with just a hint of pine and resin. Fruit is more muted – just a dark and softly tart hint. Sweetness is there, but thinned and overshadowed. Base malts pull back to a support role. Some powdery chocolate comes out late in the finish as bitterness fades.

M: Up front it is more rich than full with CO2 starting with a soft feel but actually providing a fair bit of lift. Smooth, almost creamy initially, and then getting a bit more perky as carbonation comes on stronger. Sweet at first with lots of sticky sugars & a few chewy dextrins. Finish is firmly drying with a strong roast character. Very rich and nicely burly feel.

D: Note hugely complex, but fairly robust and rich enough. More bitter than toasty, and that when this IS strongly roasty. Other notes serve as accent notes to these main two. It drinks more like 6% than 8% - so care is recommended. Very solid and a very fair rendition of the style.

22 ounce bomber picked up at Vintage Estate, split with my buddy Matt, and poured into my Stone pint glass.

A: Pours a motor-oil black, with 1-fingers worth of tan brown head on top that stuck around for a while.

S: A hint of coffee, a touch of chocolate, and a nice balance of classic roasted barley that's very inviting.

T: The chocolate is a bit more pronounced in the taste than it was in the nose. The coffee is present but not overpowering. Lots of great roasted barley goodness, and just a touch of *alcohol burn*, which, for whatever reason, is sort of pleasing in this instance.

M: Hefty, with very fine carbonation. The alcohol works with the very fine carbonation to tingle all over the tongue.

D/O: Very enjoyable. I'm not sure how "drinkable" this style of beer is, for me, in general, but I would definitely revisit this brew. Good complexity, and a good, well-rounded brew.

Poured from a bomber into a snifter. Head stayed true the entire time I tasted the beer.
A: Smells sweet--malty, caramel, chocolates.

T: Front is quite sweet. Carbonation enters in the middle and the finish is of hops and dark chocolate. There is a lingering bitter taste, similar to a cigar or bold coffee.

M: Similar to a milk stout.

O: This is a complex stout with a pleasant hoppy finish.
